Default Periscopes

I read somewhere that the periscope and the UZO were backwards, does anyone know if it can be corrected?

Makes no sense. UZO wasn't fix, it was set into it's gearshaft when needed, otherwise it was down. With the scopes no idea, i've seen only pictures with 'em trained on AOB 0.

Not sure what he means with 'backwards' either.

Doesn't the UZO come out of the sub where the main scope should?

Not sure what exactly you are asking, but I'll take a stab....

The UZO is a detachable (targeting binocular) instrument on a rigid platform on the bridge just forward of the Observation scope. There is a scene in DAS BOOT where they show attaching a UZO to fire a torpedo on the surface.

The Attack scope is behind the hatch on the bridge, whereas the Observation scope is forward of the hatch.

Hope I got that right.

Hello !

UZO: Submarine goal optics. Surface double glass with bright hair cross to the target acquisition, which was appropriate on the sight for torpedo on the bridge and which reproaching computer fed automatically with the data of direction and range readings.

Best regards,

Ahhhhh now I get it. Yes, good point

What he is meaning is that the position of the UZO column and the observation periscope shaft on the bridge are actually interchanged; he says that the scope should be BEHIND the UZO column, and not before it.

I should check some photos, but I think the game has them in the correct position.

This is a scheme from the US Navy showing the location of items on the bridge of a captured Type IXC:

As you can see, the UZO (2) is actually on a side, and the observation scope (13) comes out in the shaft behind it (As you suggest) but I think that in the Type VII that was not the case.

Will research and see what I find

Maybe type VII and IX differ.
