It's 1939 I got awarded the Uboat badge for docking at the habour after the shakedown and now I've been awarded the German cross in gold for sinking a measly 2200 tons.
I look in the cnfg files and find no criteria for these two medal and the front clasp. Just how does this crazy game decide when these medals are given out? and why couldn't they get such a simple part of the game right! |

Interesting. I've been given the Knight's Cross Second Class, but never the U-boat Badge.
I don't know.

GWX should award you the War Badge upon completion of your second war patrol - and it is the same criteria for crewmen. As for the other - did you edit any files or otherwise increase your renown in any way?
I have done that for several campaigns, and the game bases awarded medals on that renown - one group I play with has an app that automatically grants 25000 renown just so we can outfit newly commissioned boats as appropriate via historical records - and/or available supplies in-game from Flotilla requests. This renown will cause nearly created Kaleuns to have every medal in game - thus I edit the files afterwords to remove same. As an aside - I also manipulate the crew lists to be historical if I can find such a listing for my boats. On the other hand, if you are using any mods that add in ships they may be incorrect as to the renown awarded for them - IIRC there was one such in an earlier version of one such list - can't remember which one at the moment but it was discussed on this list a while back. |

Draka,
The only mod I use is GWX3 and the only things I change are number of days in base and crew names. I have changed the figure for fuel consumption on the IIA using S3D but that just changes one value. I now see why I was given the Uboat badge after two patrols and I guess that's fine but the gold cross for sinking a small passenger cargo! I won't be able to show my face in the bars of Kiel when there are guys out and about sporting ICs for sinking battleships. |

Draka,
Take a look at those figures I posted. They are actuall cut and pastes from my game files. The medals with -1 value I didn't have and when I changed medals 8 and 9 back to -1 they disappeared from my medal box. So in my game medal 8 is front clasp and medal 9 is gold cross. I'm debating with myself whether or not to add lines for the three medals which are missing and give them the renown values I think they should have in order to make them be awarded in what I consider the right sequence but I'm unsure if other forces are at work and worried that doing so may screw something up. |

I posted the one for Crew_Career_XX.cfg files - Players (CareersXX.cfg) one:
0=Iron Cross Second Class 1=Iron Cross First Class 2=German Cross in Gold 3=Knights Cross 4=Knights Cross Oak Leaves 5=Knights Cross Oak Leaves and Swords 6=Knights Cross Oak Leaves,Swords and Diamonds 7=U-Boat Front Clasp 8=U-Boat War Badge 9=Wound Badge My bad. The way it SHOULD work is that you can have up to 10 medals - but the order in which they are awarded isn't important. In your case: Medal8=2 Medal9=3 Medal number 8 = Type 2 - which is the Iron Cross in Gold, and Medal Number 9 = Type 3 - Knight's Cross. Normally you get them in the same order as the type - but yours are different. I've been playing around a lot in editing the files lately - based on an old thread that JScones pointed out to me - and so far that is my experience. Why yours is so outta whack is a mystery ...... I'm making a new Kaleun at the moment and will cut'n'paste yer values in and see what happens ... |

For now I've just taken them away by resetting them to -1. I'll see what they give me when I return after the next patrol. Same patrol grid so maybe if I bag me another small passenger cargo they might make me Fuhrer. |

OK - I was wrong. <Egg on face>
Correct settings: Medal0=Iron Cross Second Class Medal1=Iron Cross First Class Medal2=Knights Cross Medal3=Knights Cross With Oak Leaves Medal4=Knights Cross With Oak Leaves and Swords Medal5=Knights Cross With Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds Medal6=Knights Cross With Golden Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds Medal7=U-Boat War Badge Medal8=U-Boat War Badge Front Clasp Medal9=German Cross in Gold The number can be any positive value - it is the order in which it was awarded, but the game doesn't give a damn when displaying them. Any negative value means no medal - "-1" is used by default. What threw me was I normally work in progression, so throwing random numbers in there wasn't part of my test routine. And that crew can receive the Wound Badge, but I can't find anywhere the player can earn it - apparently, you get wounded, you die! It still doesn't explain your first question, tho - you should have been awarded Medal7 after your second patrol - but it gave you the Clasp at the same time - which is wrong. Note that the program ASSUMES that you had Medal7 and didn't hiccup on awarding you Medal8 to a non-existing reward! More testing ...... p.s. That old thread that got me started: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...hlight=grad%3D |

This is what I'm thinking of trying after I finish my next patrol.
In the basic cfg I intend adding the following two lines. MedalScore8=2000;war badge, SCORE MedalScore9=10000;gold cross, SCORE If it works how I think it does, then you would get the War Badge first, and the Gold Cross inbetween Iron Cross 1 and Knights Cross. The Front Clasp should be awarded by the final line (MedalScore6=80000;all, SCORE) making it the final award, which if it is the gold version of the Front Clasp is OK because apparently none were ever awarded. |
