Default Installing from the pristine

So, time for a fresh install. Here's the plan:

I'll install from DVD SH4 Gold into a folder on my desktop I'll call "pristine SH4 Gold "

Then copy and paste it into another folder I'llcall "SH4 use this one"

And load that one with mods and jsgme and play it.

Then when the inevitable happens I can just copy and paste from "pristine" into some new folder for a fresh install.

Is that right?

And could I copy and paste the mods alongside "pristine" to save having to dl them (yet) again?

Apologies if this all seems so dumb. Be gentle. Losing all savegames would'nt bother me by the way.

Actually that's a good idea but it won't work. What you have to do is do a normal install into a /Wolves of the Pacific directory. Then after installation, THEN copy the whole kit and kaboodle into your /SH4 Pristeen directory. I write protected directory and all files within so I couldn't mess it up or play it.

Now you have the installation directory, properly installed and with necessary registry keys for it to be played, and the Pristeen directory as your piggy bank so you'll never have to reinstall again. I also put JSGME and MultiSH4 into my pristeen directory.

I'd keep mods out of the pristeen directory and just save the compressed mod installation zip files in a separate piggy bank directory for that.

You don't have to worry about losing saved games or game settings when you restore your game files, because they are saved in your My Documents folder.

That was exactly what I needed explained, thanks RR, that's me back out there. Funny thing: the mods didn't seem to "take" at first, so I uninstalled, did a restart, reinstalled, restarted, and all seems fine and even more pretty pictures inside the sub.

Trying out TMO 1.8 and just approaching first convoy so we'll see how it goes.... No planes yet, thank goodness. Thanks be to Ducimus.

It's been said elsewhere, Rockin Robbins you're a star, but it bears repeating.
