Hi all, I'm running GWX 3.0 as well as SHC. Heres my questions: In radio messages sometimes they will give a "Nav Sq DT 6559" (for example) How do I determine that location?
Transmit beacon- How do I do that and how do I see a beacon from another sub? Guz |

A lot of the transmissions you receive in GWX are for period flavor and atmosphere. If you actually travelled to grid square DT 6559 odds are you wouldn't actually find a naval squadron. However, The numbers and letters are based on a quadrant map used by the German Kriegsmarine to divide up the Atlantic into a grid.

That's just a further subdivision of grid 65, (I think) which isn't represented ingame. (as far as I know)
But maybe in SH5, eh?

In GWX3 there is a map you can pull down from the nav map screen, near the top left corner. It looks like the one in the picture that was posted above. In the lower right corner of that map there is a little box that is divided up into 9 squares. Those are the subdivisions of each grid square and if you apply the same set of subdivisions to each sub square you will get all the info you need. So as to your question TD6559 is the ninth subdivision of the fith subdivision of grid TD65. That map also has all the convoy routs and shiping lains so it can be quite useful for planing patrols.
If you check the map after you get the report some times you will see a convoy marker at the indicated location. If you see the mark and are in the area it could be worth ploting an intersept course and checking it out. In my experiance if they put the marker on the map there is some thing there to shoot. If you can catch it is a nother matter entierly. |
