Default Odd Convoy.

Right, im below the surface looking out over this large convoy, consisting of mostly Merchants, One lone destroyer in the front.

Then i made a discovery, inside the Convoy, deep inside was the Battleship Nelson!

So, heres the tricky part, sneak in and destroy Her, or go for the merchants.

What do you think ?

I don't think it is that terribly odd. She could have been refitting in America or returning from overseas station.
The odd part is her being right in the middle. You would think she would be covering one flank and the lone destroyer the other. She would have trouble getting up to speed and maneuvering if she came under submarine attack.

I would see if you could put 1 or 2 torpedo into her to slow her down and wait for her to fall out of the convoy and then wait until the next day or the day after that and finish her off.

as of now the whole convoy is acting wierd, scattered all over the place, improving the odds of sinking the rodney.

Man, Convoys werent my best targets, all torps missed, hitting 2 merchants. WIch were neutral too me. got forced down and depth charged, wich caused flooding in the back compartment, causing us to sink by the stern ;(

If you have at least one T1 with you, i'd suggest to go to flank speed to alert the destroyer. If she comes straight to you, she's an easy target at 600m.
If she zig zags, wait until she runs over you once and put the torpedo in her while she turns around.

I usually follow this strategy if there are less than 4 DDs.

I met a very similar convoy.
Having evaded the escorts and slipped into the convoy lanes I fired four torps at the Nelson from 500 mtrs.
All direct hits low down along the hull - and every one a dud torpedo!!
I've got some questions for the tech boys back at Bdu

I've had a torpedo hit the ship, bounce off, then start back up, and run into the ship and explode.

Go for the big boy......they would regularly sail with a convoy add to the AA cover and guard against surface raiders.

In RL would that happen?
I mean, a BB or even a Cruiser in the middle of a convoy?
Only tankers have deeper heel than those ships so a smart Kaleun would easily pick em off.
Plus, this situation limits their maneuverability and speed.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that at the start of the war the admiralty was as worried about surface raiders as subs, so some convoys did indeed have a surface escort. I think they used old WW1 battlecruisers and similar ships. So yes, entirely feasible I would say.
(Of course I stand to be very much corrected if I am wrong)

In reality during 1940 and 1941 the Admiralty was concerned about attacks of German Battleships and Cruisers on their Atlantic Convoys. Therefore they used to have old (usually) Battleships escorting the convoys to scare the Germans off.

An example of this was the Operation Berlin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Berlin

I hope this explains the reasoning for putting Battleships in Convoys in GWX

You can be fairly certain that if the GWX team includes battle ship escorts there will some historical accuracy

Most definitely and Mel has posted a worthy link to support the fact.

Here's a further example showing HMS Anson (pay particular attention to the bottom of the page):
