Default U480 - a New Idea For Renown....GWX Team ?

hi hunters

i have recently watched a documentary on the history channel - Deep Sea Sundays i believe. it was about U480. aparently it was lost 10.miles S.E.of Isles Scilly. but....it was found in the Der Canal ! and not only that, it was covered with a rubber matting with hundreds if not thousands of tiny holes drilled in to this matting. turns out the scientists had discovered a way of avoiding detection by Asdic etc: the tiny holes in the rubber matting absorbed the 'ping' and it would not return to the above destroyer.

Hans-Joachim Förster was her captian and was quite succesfull even for such a late stage of the war, 44-45.

unfortunatly he and U480 were lost with all hands when they sailed into a mine the English had layed near a guidance buoy for shipping some meters below the waves. if any of you Kaleuns have Sky or the History Channel maybe you can get at it again. it was a very interesting documentary. i was lucky, my friend has allll the channels.

i had an idea while i watched this documentary. Maybe the GWX team could implement an addition for the game by making it possible to buy with renown points a coating of this special rubber matting to make the u Boats 'almost' invisisble towards the end of the war.

it was out there for real in 44-45. at the end of the documentary they said that 6 (six) U Boats had never been discovered because of this rubber matting and it seriously frightened the Brits.

maybe it is already in the game, i would not be surprised !! because i have never made it past 43!!

In fact i think this was in stock sh3 too. A coating of rubber tiles to reduce the subs sonar echo according to the manual.

Heyas,

http://www.uboataces.com/sonar-coating.shtml

I believe it is in the game, though I can't remember what year it comes up. I recall that it only has an effect of around 10% decreased chance of detection though. GWX manual shows the upgrade becoming available in '41 (alberich) and two others following it in '43 and '44, though I don't know anything about those because '41 is always my graveyard :P

::Edit - Beaten, didn't see the above posts That's what happens when you open 20 tabs at once and read through them over time.
