Default tutorial for mod download?

This can't be this friggin hard. I have installed the Generic Mod Enabler and have downloaded mods from this site and activated them in the GME, yet they do not work in game play. What am I doing wrong?

You have an extra folder level after extract the archive.

JSGME ready Mods should follow this format:

Bestest Mod Ever > data > cfg (example)

However, during extraction an additional level can be created, meaning the structure is like this:

Beastest Mod Ever > Bestest Mod Ever > data > cfg

Make sure your mods follow the first example.

Or if the mod maker failed to propperly set up the folder structure in the compressed archive:

SH3-folder > MODS > Data > whatever-files-and-folders-this-mod-contains

Note that if a "Data" folder is extracted into the MODS folder then JSGME thinks you want to install a mod named "Data", but it is really is just a part of the structure. And so all files and folders will be misplaced by one level in the structure. Inbetween MODS and the Data folder must be a folder that has a descriptive name of the mod.

P.S. To cut our guess work short, please tell us what your C:\Program Files\Silent Hunter III\MODS folder (or whatever path it has on your pc) looks like right now. What files and/or folders are in there. Please be exact.

my path goes like this: C:\Progam Files\Ubisoft\SHIII\MODS. Within the MODS folder are the following: a faded folder called !BACKUP. another faded folder called !INSTLOGS, a folder called MODS, JSGME app, a JSGME config setting icon and a JSGME file snapshot text doc. When i open the MODS folder I just mentioned, !BACKUP & !INSTLOGS along with a folder called Das Boot Clothes and the JSGME config setting icon appear. When I open the Das Boto Clothes folder, a data folder appears, then crew...etc.

M14, looks right matey.

Just be sure that when you install mods, they look like this:

C:\Progam Files\Ubisoft\SHIII\MODS\mod-folder-name\mod files
(right)

and not;

C:\Progam Files\Ubisoft\SHIII\MODS\mod-folder-name\mod-folder-name\mod files
(wrong)

Once you place your mod in the folder in the above correct format, start JSGME, look down the list on the left of the screen, select the mod you want from that list by left clicking it to highlight, click the right arrow so it is added to the right hand list, and your mod is enabled.

Semi-transparent folders are just those that are hidden by default. You won't need them anyway Just assume they're doing their job.

::Edit - sorry if I'm repeating anything you know already, I just saw your other thread. Don't mean to come off patronising.

Before you go ahead and do that, are you sure the Das Boot clothes mod takes effect straight away and don't have to be taken off their station and then placed back on it again, or maybe it only applies out at sea away from port?

You might have it all set up properly, just the mod is doing something other than what you expect

All the best in your quest either way

well...not sure how the mod should "perform". As soon as I begin a mission I check all the crew and they are in the "stock" uniforms.

Well, from what you describe I think your method of extraction may be causing the mod not to be correctly installed by JSGME.

I don't know how you transfer your mods to your JSGME MOD folder but a good way is to right click on the mod , drag to the MOD folder and select "extract here" from the drop-down menu which has appeared.

You will see there is another option "extract to MODS\xxxx\xxxxx" in the drop-down menu. If you select this, it will appear to install in JSGME but instead of modifying the files in your game, it will have simply put a folder containing the mod into the main SH3 directory ( along with all the dll files, exes etc.)

Is this what is happening when you try to install your uniform mod?

M14, check your PM's. You've got a duplicated MODS folder and you're putting the Das Boot clothes mod in the second folder. You've got:

C/:Program Files/Ubisoft/SHIII/MODS/MODS/Das Boot Clothes

Should be:

C/:Program Files/Ubisoft/SHIII/MODS/Das Boot Clothes

.. and the JSGME.exe application should not be inside that first MODS folder. It's not even possible since the application is supposed to make it itself (unless it allready finds one there). JSGME should be in the same folder as Sh3.exe is in. The (one-and-only) MODS folder should contain:

- those greyed out things ('hidden'... aka: don't touch ),
- the folders containing each mod,
- a special JSGME.ini file that looks like it contains information about which mods are enabled. (different from the jsgme.ini in SH3 base-folder, and may not be there if nothing is enabled)
