Default New SH4 player

Ok, so I went against my principle of playing SH3 until SH5 came out.
I saw some screenies yesterday which I found attractive, and on my way home from school today I found this sweet deal on SH4+uboat missions in a local shop.

I'm a bit confused though, because I find no patch for U-boat Missions, but a 1.4 patch for the vanilla game.

1. Should I patch the game to 1.4 before installing the expansion?

2. Is there really no patch for U-boat missions?

3. I never install gameshadow or any other 3rd party "adwarez" that comes with games because my email inbox gets full of crap even without me adding this crap to it. So if there's a patch, I need to download it manually.
And I like to be in control by doing it myself so I have a clue what patch I'm running etc. (also storing the actual patch for later use maybe after the game is being supported on gameshadow)

Thanks, Brew

You need to purchase the U-Boat add-on - know as patch 1.5 from Ubisoft (it's a d/l) for $10.00. It is worth it just for the SH4 upgrades if you do not care about the U-boat stuff.

I care only for the Kriegsmarine stuff tbh... and I got the expansion, I figured out that the expansion actually is the 1.5 patch too.

What my worries are now is wether to go with one of the bigmods or staying vanilla.

RealFleet mod, TriggerMaru or one of ther others... any suggestions?

Since you said you got SH4 and the Uboat missions Im assuming your already patched up to 1.5. It was included with the uboat mission add on.

Enjoy the game as it is for a while before you start dabbeling in modding just to make sure it is stable on your system if nothing else.

Also note that most major mods really only address the US / pacific theater stuff.

Good luck good hunting and welcome !

I can speak only for myself, but from a practical point of view, there wasn't much point in working on the uboat game, or at least, not much of a point in putting much effort into it.

The reason is, everyone was waiting for GWX4. I think most SH4 modders kind of expected GWX's entry into SH4 to be one with much hype, hoopla, grandstanding, and fanfare. All work put into the uboat game prior to the release of GWX4 would in all likelyhood been dropped like a brick, and tossed aside regardless of quality. So from that perspective, why bother with uboats at all?

I view it in terms of time management. Modders have lives too, and a limited amount of time to devote to modding. As a modder, id rather put my efforts to where i feel they will do the most good. In SH4's case, that is the PTO. Up tell recently, its been assumed (at least by me) that GWX would handle all things ATO, and since i think my work would have been tossed aside anyway, i didn't concern myself with uboats very much at all. Now the big, "why bother?" is SH5. I personally don't see much point in putting effort into the uboat game in SH4 when users who want uboats have SH3/GWX and will drop SH4 like a brick the instant SH5 hits the shelves. Why put time and effort into something that will be relegated to obsolescence?

With all said, i think Lurkers efforts into the ATO in SH4 are grossly under appreciated.

Default $10? You were ripped!

Don't pay $10! You can get it much cheaper! I got mine for $9.99 with an online download!

Most mods now are designed for 1.5. Also, 1.5 (i.e, the U-Boat missions) incorporates the 1.4 patches.

OM+OMEGU is just beautiful, now if I could only get proper map updates on contacts I would be sailing the high (deep?) seas in SH4 until SH5 is patched and fixed at least for 6 months

Follow Onkle Duci's advice and go with Operation Monsun. The only thing GWX 3 has that it doesn't is the harbor traffic stuff and the blimps. Well, there are probably others, but OpsMonsun is one fantastic mod, and SH4 has so much more to offer than SH3.

Okay, I see from your last post that you got it. Good job! Oh, and I love your screen name.

You think I read posts that closely???

Geez, the only time I concentrate on anything lately is when I sim, read a book or watch a movie. Life is too damn hectic for any more of a concentrated effort.
