SH4 Install Questions

Hello, Im new to SH4 and was wondering about how to install SH4.

I have several computers on my desk, and was wondering if I have to install a different copy of SH4 on eanch. Or does it just require a disk in each one so when I wanted to play on that particular computer I could just put the disk in that computer.

For those who might be wondering, why does he have mulitple computers on his desk? I do web design on one computer and the other is a media box, plus Im getting ready to make a new computer for myself for gaming/sims so if If its computer specific, I'd have to hold of installing till I finish my new computer.

Thanks for any info, I'm looking forward to playing SH4 now that I'm retired.

Welcome to Subsim! You're going to love this place and SH4!

Silent Hunter 4 has to be installed on the computer. It can't be run just off the DVD. According to the license it must be installed on one machine only, multiple copies must be purchased for multiple machines. With the ultra cheap prices for SH4 Gold, that shouldn't be much of an issue.

I'd install it one one computer until you get the gaming computer built, uninstall from computer 1 and install again on the gaming computer. You're going to love it.

The learning curve is kind of steep (my brother is appalled at how steep, but he plays Nascar 2003, which is a VERY steep learning curve too). Take it slow, use the easy modes to get your sea legs. When the game gets sort of routine and feels stale then its time to take up manual targeting. Suddenly it's a new game that never gets old!

I recommend playing the game stock until you know its controls and habits as second nature. Then start learning the mods. Take it easy. Quit when you're getting frustrated and come back another time.

Mostly, have fun!

tnx RR

Tnx RR for the reply.

Ok, thats sounds fair. I wasnt sure, cause some games you just install on your computers, but it can only be played on the one who has the CD in the drive. kinda like Links Golf 2k3 or RFactor (VHR) Racing Game like NR2k3 which my team races in at www.simrz.com . I didnt really get into racing till after NR2k3 and its almost impossible to buy a copy now, so chose RFactor cause its like SH, its very modable.

Your correct about SH4 being cheap, went on www.newegg.com and bought a copy for about $10. Now that what I call reasonable. So I bought 2.

BTW, I read your post about sinking the ESSEX, (oops) So guess stuff happens in these sims weather your a verterna seaman or newbie like me.

Look foward to gaming with you sometime, and tnx again for the info. I truly apprecaite the help.
