Default A Captain seeks advice....

USS Balao thus far has had a pretty dull patrol. Dropping an Australian watcher onto Bougainville to monitor Japanese ship movements, what minimal contacts that have been detected by Balao's radar have not really be worth the interest. The constant heavy seas hasn't helped matters either for endless days current.

After dancing to COMSUBPAC's tunes and orders for several weeks and finding nothing, Cmdr Jonas Blaine decided to use his granted autonomy and sail for the islands near Guam in the hopes of trying to find something big.

Fortune rapidly changed. Enroute to Guam, a large cluster of ships have recently lit up Balao's radar scope, much to the interest of the operator and captain. The course was plotted and an intercept made.....fortune for Balao and her crew had indeed changed.

Heading towards us at the moment is a large Japanese Task Force. Comprised of Heavy Crusiers, two battleships and two carriers. After recieving a DSM for the sinking of the battleship Kongo several months prior, should Cmdr Blaine try to get a feather in his cap for the sinking of a SECOND Japanese battleship in his career....or should he go for the tactical reasoning and sink the biggest (and first) carrier??

The loss of a carrier can be a difficult thing to replace given the security its aircraft can provide. The seas are still dog gone rough, its dark, but i'm in the perfect place to wait for them to come to me.

So my fellow captains, I beseech thee all for advice.....another battleship....or a flat-top??

Aircraft carriers were always the prize.

I concur. Battleships without air cover were fairly useless. Pearl Harbor and the destruction of British force 'Z' demonstrated that.

True.....but the battleships have more tonnage to put under my belt. But having said that, the thinner armour on a carrier increases the probability of a sinking

But having said that, I think its possible to sink any battleship in this game (unless its Yamato) with a full salvo of 6 fish
