Default Dilemma

Frustrating. Sighted both the Hood and Nelson sailing unescorted at 12 knots in AN15 on 15 Oct 39. Great position but stormy conditions and poor visibility, Problem is I only have 3 ells left. Two type 1s and one type 2. Hit the Hood with the type 2 and the Nelson with the two type 1s. Disabled both but unfortunately they won't sink. Trying to follow both but games shows them drifting at 12 knots. Trying to be patient but think I'll have to use a save game and go back and sink one with the 3 ells.

Just passing it along because as long as I've been playing this darn game, I've never seen a battle ship unescorted in open sea. It pays to hang around west of Scappa.

Got greedy, didn't you?

There are no second chances in war.

Aim for the ammunition depot that usually means 1 shot 1 kill :P
I think ammunition depot is between the 2 front main guns

Last time I attempted to sink the Nelson, it was in Gibraltar, and it took me 5 or 6 eels spread along her hull...!
Mind you she did'nt sink, probably due to the small depths around there...
I had to leave,frustrated...
But was definitely not happy with that, so came back the next day, sent 1 more eel and finally, VICTORY, she was sank at last.
As for you, in the deep sea it might work with 3.
Good luck !

Yes the Nelson is hard. I have sunk the Hood with one shot but not the Nelson. Heck, the waves are high so maybe one will go down before I'm forced to swallow my pride and use a save game.

I've done quite a few 1 shot 1 kill on Ligh Cruisers, Southampton Class & BB's, but you need to use manual targetting for that, usually with automatic target you aim for the middle of the ship.

Pohl :
Well, I might be wrong but, in my book ( i.e. Recognition Manual )

Hood = 48.360 tons
Light Cruisers = ~ 11.000
Heavy Cruisers = ~ 13.000
Southampton = 10.725

So AFAICS 1 eel only to sink the Hood appears unlikely to me. The others, ok if you hit at the right location.

You can aim anywhere at a ship using automatic targeting as well. Just don't lock your scope. The targeting arrow appears when the vertical crosshair of your scope/UZO is over any portion of the ship and you can aim to hit that part of the ship.
