It would be extremely useful for finding AOB in-game if the AOB tool was an exact replica of the top enemy ship indicator in the right hand Position Keeper panel. There would be an outer "Heading" ring outside the normal AOB circle, and the heading ring would rotate with OwnShip's heading (if you were on a course of 270, say, then the outer ring would read 270 at the very top, just like the lower OwnShip indicator in the PK panel). That way, all you would need to know is the target's heading, in which case you rotate the image of the ship so that its bow points on its measured heading, and then you've got your AOB right there on the bottom of the circle. Does that make sense?

EasyAoB does that. You move the dial on the right hand side, and it moves simultaneously on the left hand side, while on the left hand side there is that outer ring you speak of.

Well, is there a mod that does that but is compatible with 1.4? Because that's what I have.

If you read how it was done for 1.5, you should be able to open the "dials" file in 1.4 and make the necessary changes yourself.

As I previously posted in another thread, it only costs about 10 bucks to update to SH4 1.5. Your time is worth money and you can easily blow through 10 bucks worth of time trying to figure out how to modify the cfg files. It is something to consider.

Good point IGD. Besides, having UBM/1.5 also makes you compatible with most of the mods here. Not many are being made for 1.4 anymore.

Thanks for the tip, but I got the mod working for 1.4. I may get 1.5 later, not sure yet.

On a related note, does EasyAoB work also for sonar-only targeting? Like if I get range to a target, wait a little, get range again and click the stopwatch will it do the speed/heading estimate and let me set AOB with it? |

Usually with sonar targeting you're going to hop to the periscope station to input your data which means the game can't tell the difference, so yeah.

You might want to revise your post in the Easy AoB thread, as while it explains what you did, it was difficult for me to follow. I am familiar with the mod and the steps required if you modify the data file as I once posted questions regarding it. If you are posting it for guidance purposes for those with similar problems, clarifying it would be useful. It's your call.
