Default Which one is bigger?

Did you ever wonder which one was bigger ...

The Polaris A-3 SLBM (left) next to its larger successor, the Poseidon C-3 SLBM, March 1968

The Polaris A-3 was the latest and last version of the Polaris missile, the Navy's first underwater ballistic
missile initially deployed in 1960. The A-3 was deployed between 1964 and 1981. In 1965, the Navy started
development of the next generation of SLBMs and beginning in 1971 the Poseidon C-3 was deployed aboard
31 converted Polaris submarines, with 16 missiles on each submarine.
The Polaris A-3 carried three W58 warheads, each
with a yield of 200 kilotons. The Poseidon C-3 carried an average of 10 W68
warheads, each with a yield of 40-50 kilotons
(the missile was tested with 14 warheads but carrying this number would restrict its range).

Don't just look at the size ... The small one on the left (A-3) packs a bigger wahlap/whoosh/bang than the one on the right (C-3)

Three (3) 200 kilotons vs ten (10) 40-50 kilotons ... Warheads per missile. Do the math. I use to sleep 30 yards from these babies.

Default Which one is bigger?

There are general conceptions in the military - just as in real life - like: "The Bigger, The Better", "The More Expensive, The Better" and "The Newer, The Better."
While these adagia are not always true, in military practice they are often applied and usually work as a team.

Whenever I'm faced with questions like the one of geetrue, I apply these adagia et vloilá!

However, a large number of small warheads properly spread over an area can do more damage than one big one for similar total yields.

My dad actually worked on building Trident missiles when he worked for Hughes Aircraft Co. back in the day.

Task Force made me do it ... I brought up my first thread (on this server)

We must have filled up the other server with so many sea stories that those threads got lost
