Some are complaining about the bad weather and the difficulty to get a good solution for a torpedo shot.
First, learn to love bad weather as it will help you approaching convoys especially late war. Escorts are far less effective in heavy seas... Ok so the main problem is the poor visibility: If you expect a classic 90° shot you may not see your target or if you see it distance may be less than 300m and will result in dud. If you want to attack a convoy, you will get in front of it and have an idea of its course. When the lead escorts have passed and not detected me i try to get perpendicular to the convoy course. When this is done i check my hydrophon and try to get a contact in the 270-280 or 90-80 and keep it in this zone ( by moving forward or backward) ![]() ![]() In that photo, convoy is heading east and i got it in my 280. This means that at one moment it will cross just in front of me so i will have it in my periscop ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As soon as i see it i order a parallel course to it ![]() I will let it pass ( be careful about collisions) next to my sub. Even if the ship is very near it can't detect you ![]() So now you're behind it. Your goal now is to get REALLY behind it. It's not the case in the photo under but you need very light course modification to reach this goal ![]() ![]()
