Default Time to move on now...

Ok, pretty much everyone said play the stock game so you'll know what has changed. I think I have. Sure I had trouble with the photo recon at Koror (I did everything but throw rocks at those DDs and they would not get out of my way... oh well, maybe photo recon is not my field of expertise)... but after my last patrol... Oct - Dec, 1942 (with a refresh/reload stop in the Solomons) - I had 34 kills for a rather unbelievable 183K tons.

Methinks it is time to move on to the next level... so what is the concensus for the next step? RFB + RSRDC? Gentlemen, I rest my immediate future in your capable hands...

Sure. Id go give RFB, and the RSRD campaign, you will not get that much tonage. as the ships in rsrd are harder to find.

I say an S-Boat career with RFB/RSRD is just what the doctor ordered!

One thing is not clear: What realism level were you playing?

186K on one patrol is pretty incredible. If you were doing this with 90% reality, you have my deepest respect.

Unless you are playing with manual targeting, I don't think that RFB or TMO will be giving you alot.

I think you should stay with the stock game but play on the higher realism levels. Once you get the hang of manual targeting (the whole purpose of the sim, IMHO) then you will more fully appreciate the work put in to the super-mods.

Or you can just jump in to the mods

YMMV

Yes, the S boats torps work great....the problem is puttering along at 12 kts full tilt....end rounds are awfully long....

I'd go with RFB/RSRD as well. It doesn't throw the uber-DDs at you like TMO sometime does.

Don't give up on those photo-recon missions. It can be quite rewarding. HQ always appreciates those Tushi Maru pictures.

No respect necessary, kind sir... I was playing with 60% +/-. Love that external view... just too dang pretty to pass on. I hope to eventually master manual targeting... but at the same time I am one of those who lets his officers do the targeting. I mean, after all... isn't that what a weapons officer is for? I will bump up the difficulty some tho... not sure where and what yet.

LMAO Torp! Love the pic! Sounds like the consensus is RFB + RSRDC...

I would say load TMO. The AI is really easy if you do the right things.
I remember stock where you can sink the entire jap fleet with one career.
I play at 90%, cams on, contacts off. Use the cams just for SS or if I get in a hurry I'll take some peeks, but it's really a cheat cam.

Learn to manual target. Really your just entering factors and your TDC is doing the work...a fair balance.

The duds will drive you nuts, so carry plenty M10's early war, not as powerful, but they work.

The good thing about mods is they nerfed the deckgun. Still too powerful IMO, but it will take 40 rounds to sink a ship, the 40 becomes useless against ships. With TMO the ships will shoot you to pieces at much further ranges than stock.

I don't think there was a weapons officer in the entire Pacific who could manage the accuracy of auto-targeting.

Why must one play the stock game forever before loading up either RFB or TMO? To me this is very pointless as you dont have to play the stock game at max then get tired of and move on to something else.Hell you dont have to play the stock game a at high realism if you dont want to. With both RFB and TMO you can play things at 0% all the way to 100% if you so desire to me either will sufice when ever you fill like loading them go for it. To be playing stock at what ever level you play at to "get the feel" before you move on is off base. You dont stay in bad relationship with a woman when you know there are better women for you out there so why do such a thing with anything else I ask?(I am married by the way but it sucked I wouldnt be) Akula try every mod run a career in each go for it man and kick your self once for having waited so long. Jump in feet first you wont drown I promise.I will trow you life vest if you do.

I totally agree and have always said the same. Why eat a hotdog when you can have steak. It may be good to play stock for a few patrols just so you can have the wow factor of the mods and see how much difference they make, but that's all.
You play stock, it really doesn't prepare you for mods. In fact, you have to relearn the game so to speak.
