In 1976 the swine flu was discovered at Fort Dix NJ. They attempted to make a vaccine but the side effects were not favorable so it was abandoned. Rest and plenty of fluids. There are two drugs that will help getting over the flu and not all require this drug to successfully combat this flu. Like any sickness, rest and fluids are the best medicine.

Why would they expect there to be a vaccine at this stage? Flu mutates constantly, so new strains are bound to emerge. Pigs can also be infected with both the human and avian influenza. This swine flu strain appears to contain genetic elements from all three. It's going to take a while to develop a vaccine.

Swine flu is apparantly resistant to two of the common used drugs, namely Amantadine and Rimantadine. The H1N1 swine flu viruses are very different from human H1N1 viruses. Therefore, current vaccines for human seasonal flu will not provide any protection at all.

However, a little bird, who is usually right on the money, tells me that a seed vaccine has been specifically tailored to this swine flu and will be manufactured if the CDC deems it necessary.

Stop being paranoid. 30,000 people die of normal influenza in the US in a regular year. Swine flu has managed to kill only 20, and the majority of patients survive. This isn't massive respiratory collapse, this is just a slightly stronger flu.

The 1976 outbreak strain is very different than this strain. The little buggers mutate as you stated. Hard to keep ahead of it. Vaccines take months to develop and test. Not always successful either. This virus, like most virus, are tricky changing nasty buggers.

The death toll has been overstated. I'm suspecting some panic here and over-reaction. The 1976 outbreak at Fort Dix NJ appeared and dissappeared in a month.

Change channels. Swine Flu is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A strains of the influenza virus. There are four main sub-types of the virus, but the most recent cases have been H1N1 viruses.

On that note it is to bad that another name could not be given to these things.

Swine flu cannot be spread by pork products, since the virus is not transmitted through food. From Wikipedia
Given the economic crisis, this will not help the Pork Industry.
