Default WO missing

Hi, I'm captain of a type VII boat and I notice I never have a watch officer, nor any of the orders of the watch officer. His icon is always a black silhouette. Is this normal?

Also, what does it mean to have a red exclamation mark by a man? The manual doesn't talk about this. Does that mean he's tired? I notice on patrol, of my CE, NO, and WO, two are always with a red exclamation mark.

Upon loading the game you are always one officer short of a full compliment.

When surfacing the boat your watch crew automatically take their stations on the bridge but you must physically place an officer there...I'm not sure that issue has ever been addressed though.

The red exclamation mark is indeed notice of fatigue. You should rest/rotate your crew regularly.

If your using SH3 Commander there is a 'no fatigue' option.

You must click on WO and drag & drop him onto his station every time after surface. It's annoying but AFAIR there is no other option. On my last patrol I forgot about him, result - I noticed enemy planes when I heard their engines while in TC 64. After that experience I had 5% of hull integrity less.

So always remember about putting WO in konning tower after surface.

Good luck!

Also remember that if you dragged the WO from another location, he will not be placed there when you dive. He will be sent to rest regardless of his fatigue or time on watch duty.

I always give my WO a torpedo specialty as a 2nd skill so he can still do something useful when we're dived if he's not in need of sleep.
