Default A simple set-up for a now simple guy?

Hi,
I've been playing SHIII for many and many a year but I've hit a big problem. I've recently started out with a new computer, but also, my career has come to a complete dead end following a slight stroke in real life and I need some help to get things going again and avoid the rages my present set-up of the game is giving me. (I don't know how, but after I saved my last game/career, darkness is no longer available, even when the interior goes to red if I look outside it is daylight. I get a bit frustrated/angry with things like that.)

I used to play with GWX3 but cannot handle it at the moment. I had been playing with what I thought was a perfect setup of almost Vanilla SH3 plus *many* mods, all installed with the JSJones mod tool. Just now when I loaded a save, up comes the 24 hour daylight problem. Even loading previous saves where all worked well before does not cure it so I think I will trash them. Maybe I got too many mods conflicting with each other?

It sometimes seems like it's going to be too big a challenge to try setting it all up again when all I want to do is go to sea so I am wondering if anyone has a *simple* set-up I could follow, please?

What I would like:
Mainly a vanilla SHIII, but with plenty of "eye candy" effects from the mods. As I say, I have just about every mod available as I also purchased the big mods DVD from Neal so I should be able to install any combinations you guys might suggest.

My setup (I don't know what some of this means, I'm just reading it off Everest/Belmarc)

Win XP Home SP3
Processor:
3.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
6144 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Memory:
3328 Megabytes Installed Memory
Slot 'DIMM0' has 2048 MB (serial number SerNum00)
Slot 'DIMM1' is Empty
Slot 'DIMM2' has 2048 MB (serial number SerNum02)
Slot 'DIMM3' is Empty

Display:
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ (512 MB)

I have already got two spare folders on my SH3 drive each containing pure Vanilla SH3 patched to 1.4, but *please*, no suggestions of GWX etc. I have those available and I've tried them but they are beyond me at the moment.

I can manage all of the keyboard commands and I think this is why I am sticking with SH3, even someone a bit disabled like me can still run a tight ship. (I Hope)

Thanks for any help.

Really sorry to hear about your recent stroke. I wish that I could help but I've never encountered the 24-daylight problem. About the only thing that I can suggest is a reinstall & to apply your mods one-by-one. One or more may be what's causing this problem. It may help if you listed the mods that you've applied so someone more knowledgeable than me can offer more assistance.

Hope things get sorted out for you & that you're back on the mend very soon.

Thanks very much for your thoughts. Also thanks very much indeed for your suggestion about listing the mods I have installed, if I was thinking straight I should have done that. Now that I've followed your suggestion, I'm thinking the fault may be something to do with that "SHIV Scene for SH3 16k v3b" which was one of the later mods I installed. I wasn't too happy with the horizons after I had installed that. Here's my list and thanks again for your helpful suggestion:

ail sky
CA inst patch
dials
Flagmod
Flotilla fix
Harbour_mod
Landscape_mod
MM01 guns'n'stuff
MM02 DDFletcher
MMO3 PT_elco
MM04 Flower Class
nav map
NYGM Peri fix
small moon
Tree_mod
wake
Water_mod
sound environment
Hearing impaired mod
Racerboys mods
Torpedo damage final
Kriegsmarine U-Boat records
Thomsen's Sound Pack V3
PT_SoundPack_V3.2
PT_SoundPack_V3.1
RadioMessage-Typewritter only
Lifeboat&Debris_v4
SHIV Scene for SH3 16k v3b
Improved Wave Textures
WavesStandardReflect

(They might not all be the very actual name of the mod, but that's the names of the folders I unpacked them in to.)
