Default JGSME compatability

Just how exactly does one make a set of files(ie Skins etc) ready to be installed via JGSME?I do hope its an easy process.

It is. Normally if you want to install a gramophone song you would put it in a folder marked 'Gramophone', and that would be inside one marked 'Sound', and that one would be inside one labelled 'Data'. The user would then either take the file out and put it in the 'Gramophone' folder himself or just install the 'Data' folder inside SH3.

To make that folder series JSGME-compatible you would just put the 'Data' folder inside a folder labelled 'Andym's Cool New Gramophone Songs', or whatever else you wanted to call it. JSGME just needs that one extra folder to guide it on its way.

Cheers SS,so presumably a ship with texture files and so on will need a seperate file for each type then all of them go into a "data" folder then into one named by me as required?Basically i am trying to add some extra ships via JGSME.

Do you want extra ships to appear by date or is it addittional skins by date you are after?

You can also use SH3 CMDR for this.

I am after replacing some of the stock ships with ones available in the downloads section to appear either randomly or by timeline.I just find it easy to use JGSME rather than the manual way as im a bit of a Puter Biff!

Simply put: It's explained in the help file you get after it is installed.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=141773

Basically JSGME makes a folder named 'MODS' in the game's base directory (if it isn't allready there). Inside it should be folders named differently for each specific mod. Within those 'specific named mod' folders are the modified files as you would find them in the games base-folder structure. JSGME copies the folders and files it finds in MODS/MyMod, into the game's base folderstructure when you eneable those mods. So, i.e. Sh3/MODS/Mymod/data/zones.cfg would be copied over Sh3/data/zones.cfg. But all overwritten files are neatly backed-up automatically aswell to prevent irriversible damage.

If you want to make your own JSGME-compatible mod you need to recreate the folderstructure with modified files as it would be found in the game, but into MODS/Mymod/

Then JSGME is more suitable than Commander for this purpose because the entry date in the vessels CFG file will determine when it appears in game.

You will also need to script the vessels into the Campaign layer if they don't have generic unit type designations to determine where they will appear.

If you experience difficulty drop me a PM and dependant on what vessels you are interested in and their compatability (with GWX3.0) I'll try and have a look for you.
