JSGME Question
Hello!
I just finished installing the Mod enabler JSGME on my comp and I have downloaded the mods: RFB_v1.52 and RSRDC_SH15_V400. I have first with JSGME installed RFB_v1.52 and then I have try to install the second mod, but I have a warning message from JSGME. Basically it say's: Continuing the installation of this mod, might have desastreous consequences on your game, do you want to proceed? Of course I did not install it, so is this normal? or I just cannot install those 2 mods together? or something else is wrong? Thanks! Here is a picture from the warning i get but be advise ir's in french: ![]() Thanks again! ![]() |

It could be something simple that won't matter or it could cause the game to crash. It depends on which files are in the warning. For example if I write a mod that changes the picture at the beginning of the game, and you write a mod that changes the same picture, you will get a warning that the picture has already been changed. If you install my MOD last, the game will use my picture, if you install your MOD last it will use your picture. No harm done, it will still work just a different picture. Just a simple example. But other times it makes a big difference. Another simple example. The US Naval bases are in a file called.....US_NavalBases.mis (imagine that). So I change that file and create a new Naval Base at Darwin,Australia and add a bunch of missions form there. Then you get an idea to add a Naval Base at Sydney, Australia. So you change the US_NavalBases.mis and add Sydney. Then you put in my MOD, then when you add your MOD you will get a warning that US_NavalBases.mis has already been changed by MYMOD. If you continue and add yours the game will crash because Darwin will no longer exist because your MOD changed the US_NavalBases.mis. So make sure you read the 'Readme.txt" file if there is one. It may tell you what mods it works with or at least what files it changes. The "major" MODs usually will tell you which other 'major' mods they work with, but nobody could possibly tell you every single one. Peabody

Well thank you very much, you made it very clear to me, and now I can say I understand the function of JSGME, and your explantion, about the mods I might be using. Thank you again! ![]() |

Well, I suggested you wait a while for the mods. Reason is that it is good to get the basic nuts and bolts of this sim before you mod it. I had no end of trouble adding mods later myself. Why? I dunno. But I had to reload thing several times before they would take. They are not as pusnplay as you would think. Good luck on it, you may have to remove everything and start over from scratch.

I agree with Frame, getting to know the basic game first will be a big help before modding it. I played stock for 3 months before adding RFB/RSRDC,but had no problems adding the Mods.

Of course you get the warning message because the second mod overwrites some files from first one. If it says in the readme that mod X is supposed to work with mod Y you just have to trust them. Just click ok and continue on, it can always be reversed.

Yes, Finucan expained it a bit better. I was trying to explain that with the picture example. It will give a warning but you can ignore it, it will not affect the game as long as they are supposed to work together. Like he said it just means the file has already been changed BUT the person that wrote the second MOD knows that and set up his mod so it would work.
Like my exampe about me putting in a base in Darwin and you put one in Sydney. If you know that and also put Darwin in your mod then you will still get the warning but the files will work because you added Darwin to your MOD, so all the Darwin mission in my mod will work. So you set up your MOD so it would work with mine. Peabody

I have those exact same two mods installed on my game. The warning is just telling you that some of the aircraft included in RSRDC were already included in RFB. It works fine. And, as said, if there's a problem you can always uninstall the last one you put in. I've had a couple of mods that made my game crash, and JSGME lets you take them right out again with no problems whatever.
You'll be fine with those two. ![]()

Hey Wolverine,
This is from the RFB 1.52 release thread (initial post), but it's down near the bottom so perhaps you missed it. I think it should clear away your concerns for the most part: Quote:
BUT, it's always a good idea to do as you've done and pay close attention to what the Mod Enabler is telling ya. Some mods don't come with near enough info as to what they are or are not compatible with so it can be crap shoot at times.

if you areever in a position where you dont have a read me or install info
then open the mod path completely and see if the two mods contain the exact same end file (last file) so you can tell if its a same file issue or just the same folder. often the files wont be the same but the folder will and in that case you will know it wont change the other file so the mods will work together. |
