Who says crappy weather is a bad thing?
Ok, most people do but in this game sometimes you can use it to your advantage. What choice do you have when your lookouts can't see past 600 meters and you don't have radar. Turn to the hydrophone. VIIB 2nd flotilla just before the Norway invasion. Weather started out ok but soon after the 'friendly' reports passed by heavy fog and rain, all the time. Scooted up n/e where task force reports were reported, and crap weather followed me like a lost puppy. So I used the hydrophone. Plotted an intercept according to the reports and got into a return path. Next course lead me about 2500m s/e of scappa flow looking to spend my last eels on lone merchant ot two. As usuall couldn't see a thing. After a recharge I decided to again scoot under and listen. All of a suden I started picking up contacts, warship city. Unreported task force! To make a long story short here's a snap of the end result. Hydrophone hunting. All the other screens were cruddy because of the weather. ![]() Just when you think there are no suprises left! GWX 3.0 & one of my favorite boats ![]()

Bad weather and rough seas are your best friends especially at the end of the war, i mean 1943 to 1945, because it allowed you to attack convoys ( escorts are far less effective in this kind of weather). It is hard for you too and time consuming, but if you manage to get your boat in the convoy you can sink a ship or two if you're lucky... Evasion will also be easier!

Nice job. Sinking warships is it's own challenge. If not protecting, merchants, they usually travel fast and are well-escorted. Your window for a good shot is narrow and DDs are on the look out for the periscope. Did you by chance happen to sink the Hood? In earlier GWX's (1.4, I think) the Hood traveled due East from Scapa through the North Sea.

Nice shooting.
![]() I have never been able to get anything bigger than a Bouge class escort carrier, and a London class heavy cruiser.
