I have a 27 inch Toshiba SD tv, that we got for free about a year ago, so I don't know its exact age. I have my ps3 connected to it. Now I only notice the issue in 2 player games, but it might be there all the time, just not obvious. As you know, in two player games the TV screen is supposed to be split into two even rectangles. The top one for one person, the bottom for the other. On my TV the top rectangle is fine, the issue is the bottom rectangle, for some reason it tries to display all the information, but the bottom rectangle is several inches smaller, which makes it difficult for who ever I'm playing with too play. I want to know if this is something my ps3 is doing or if its my TV, and if its my TV if I can fix it.

Dumb question; have you tried adjusting the aspect option?

In this case I think it's a limitation on your TV and the PS3 is working as it should be. What game is it by the way? It may actually be an issue with the games split screen sizing. For example Motor Storm PR has a fixed aspect split screen and it can produce some idiotic stuff. HD TV's are very cheap these days and you will be amazed at the difference in quality. ![]()

Its actually every split player game I have. Resistance 1, Resistance 2, Resident evil 5, GT5, I haven't tried Killzone 2 in splitscreen so I dont know if it'll do the same.
As for the resolution, I actually don't know what its set at. I have never messed with it. I guess I'll go check around. As for an HD tv, I cant afford one at this time, but I am looking to get one. Although I did enter a sweepstakes that was giving away a 50' LCD. I just doubt I'll win :rotfl: @underseacpl: Actually I have not. |

How do you check which resolution its set too. The only thing I could find was that I set it to component cables, and that its in the 4:3 ratio.

Do not de-tick the default selected number as it will need to default to this if you try other res settings that can't be displayed.

Hey. I'm just a lowly lab tech. Dont hate on me.
![]() Here's what its doing. Never realize how big the difference is. ![]() Here's where it says its running in 480i. There is no custom option in there. Maybe its the fact I'm using Component cables.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, when I mentioned the aspect function, I was talking about the aspect on the TV itself.
I can reproduce the exact problem you pictured with RE5 by using the "full" aspect on my tv. Do you know what I'm talking about or have you tried it already?

To be honest. I have no clue what you're talking about. When you said aspect I thought you meant the aspect ratio of the ps3, which can either be 4:3 or 16:1

Your TV can function in many different aspect ratios, although they are often given names rather than ratio numbers i.e.; Cinematic, Full, Widescreen, Letterbox, Regular, etc... The SD is a flatscreen and should have these options somewhere. Some aspects will distort the game screen a bit, making it wider or truncating edges. Others will be more suitable. If you can find the function, you should be able to pick out a reasonable setting. Play with the remote a bit and see what you can find. If you have any problems, I'll be glad to help any way I can.

Well after finding the remote and examing all the buttons, and then examing all the buttons on the actual tv, I have established there is no aspect option. The only options are to change contrast, etc.

Look at the ugly interpolation you see on HD LCD's and Plasmas! Its almost un-watchable in high action sequences. Plasmas and LCD's simply cannot reproduce the color of a CRT either - only about 35% of the color spectrum of your eyes. Except for the size of a TV, plasmas and LCD's are a step backwards, especially when compared to an HD CRT. I'm still waiting for the price a laser TV's (laservue) to drop. Laser TV's are the only true successor to a CRT. -S |
