Default Minefields or shoal off Australia?

What the heck just happened?

I was heading for Fremantle after a short, but fructuous patrol (Something like 79K tonnes; 20 or so ships, including a whole whack of sampans Got lucky, or the DD's were sleeping.)

Suddenly, off the coast of Australia, between Fremantle and that base with no name, my submarine is destroyed. I was running at full TC, ahead standard, the usual... Then all of a sudden, BAM!

The short 3D pan out was kind of unclear, there might have been some sort of shoal there, but I was pretty far offshore (I do know how to plot a course ) and I never got a shallow water message or anything of the like.

Any minefields in the area? Or is this a bug?

The most annoying thing is that I hadn't saved since leaving base. Awesome.

That´s strange, m8.

I´ve made that route about 200 times back and forth without hitting anything. The map (that comes with the game) shows no reef unless very close to shore and definatly no minefields...

Perhaps you crashed into a fishingboat or something? If you were travelling at high time-compressing, much can happend untill you are back at normal time..

Didn't see a fishing boat or anything of the sort, and the destruction was instantaneous. One moment I'm trudging along, the next I'm looking at a spinning control room.

I'm starting to lean toward a strange bug, but I do suppose it could be related to a friendly vessel... They don't drop the TC, don't they?

Enlarge your map and see if there is a tiny land mass. This happened to me also in a different local a little further north in the coral sea. I was steaming back to base after patrol, but I had time compression on and "BOOM" down I went. When I zoomed my map sure enough there was a tiny spot of land I hit and wrecked my boat good. But definitely no mines in thes areas.

yeah, I´ve got a map with my game when I ordered it from the UK. It´s like the one you got with SH3. It shows land, shippingroutes, Japanese aircover, minefields etc etc... Real handy, lol

Wish I could find it. I have a vague idea of where it is, but it's not in the SHIV box... The SHIII map is. Because that's logical!

After careful investigation, it seems I ran into a shoal. I'm usually a lot better at avoiding them; I guess I was just tired after a long patrol

Still extremely fricking annoying.
