Default Refuel, re-supply & renown/promotions/medals.....

Greetings all,

I have a question that I am sure has previously been covered but am at a loss as to where I can find the thread.
Basically, its June 1940, I have been sent from Wilhelmshaven to GC85 down near Gibraltar to patrol. I slipped through the English channel avoiding the attention of the Dunkirk debacle and the thick shipping activity. Next it was down though the Bay of Biscay and south along the West coast of Portugal to my patrol area.
By the time of my arrival at GC85 and the end of 24 hours patrolling, I had approx six ships sunk with a total tonnage of +/- 12.000-
Realizing that I was down to 25% fuel capacity and only had 7 eels left, I decided to pop in to a re-supply ship located on the Atlantic northern western of Spain, I think it was Marin. Anyway, pressed ESC and got the “Dock at bla bla”. I was informed that I had received medals and promotion and also had gained renown, however, when I tried to allocate the medals and promotion, it seemed as though the option was blocked?
So, I set off again, hit “K” (Captains Log) and there is no record of the boats sunk?
Does this mean that I will now loose the renown, promotion and medals or will they be available for when I get back to Wilhelmshaven?
While it is great to get fueled and tooled back up to enable me return to home base, if I am to loose my renown etc, seems futile to go on such long patrols?

Any ideas welcome.

Cheers

Normally when you dock at a re-supply ship, the only operation your unable to perform is upgrading your equipment.

The game will treat your docking as the end of a patrol and present you with a 'Null' patrol area when you next go out on patrol, so it is inevitable that you will lose your medals and renown I'm afraid.

Thanks Jimbuna for your swift reply mate.
Just to clarify one thing, when you say, “the only operation your unable to perform is upgrading your equipment”, is this also then applicable to crew promotions; as it seemed as though this option too was not possible.
Cheers

I'm 99% certain that you don't lose medals if you don't award them. I don't award my u-boat badges to sailors until they've had 2 patrols, as was historically correct, and they keep piling up as I complete patrols.

Ouch, thats unlucky Paddy.

I have docked at several milk-cows and resupply ships and have always been able to award medals, promotions, badges and qualifications without any trouble. The only thing you cannot do is upgrade you boat/equipment (or even select the type of torpedo's - you have to accept the default load-out).

Perhaps its something specific to that resupply vessel? Bug possibly?

Thanks lads for you advice and replies. When I dock back in Wilhelmshaven later tonight (provided I don’t get further screwed going back through the English Channel!! Dunkirk is nearing its final stage but knowing my luck, there will be some destroyers lurking for the likes of myself!!!) I will check to see if I can still award the lads with the medals and promotions that they so deserve.
Bugs or no bugs, either way, I’ll let you know the out come.
Thanks again all.
Cheers

Upon loading up last night, I realized that I had in fact docked in the bay of Cadiz with the re-supply ship and not on the Northern Spanish coast as previously mentioned. Anyway, I slipped through the English Channel with no further calamities to report, other than slotting a couple of freighters on the way. The Dunkirk exodus was well over on my return journey (7th July) and France has additionally fallen to the Reich, so there was little opposition close to the French, Belgian coasts and I made good surface speed in great sailing conditions. I docked back in to Wilhelmshaven and checked my overall status.
-Only the renown for the two freighters I had slotted on my return journey after re-supplying was awarded. Peanuts!
-No recognition of the 12.000 or so BRT sunk prior to my re-supply was awarded or even recognized. Bummer!
-While I received Medals in my little wooden box; none were available on offer for the crew.
-I got one promotion to offer my beleaguered crew and the first round on Donitz!
All in all I am still not sure if this is correct but I am rather dismayed at loosing out on the goodies because I have re-supplied mid mission; I think that on my next patrol I shall keep the speed down and ensure that I do not venture beyond my return radius limit.
So later tonight I shall be back off to sea with a belly full of sauerkraut and Schupfnudeln and warmed by many a Steiner of beer ………………………………….there will be no more re-supplying at sea for me in the near future!

The same happens when you dock at another base than you home base. My home base was in Brest, I dock at La Spezia, I receve medals and renown but I ganed them at the end of patrol when I arrived in Brest.
