Default Battle of Midway - Im a Blind Skipper

Hey everyone,

First off I just wanna say that the community on this forum is unbelievable. Ive been reading posts on this forum for years and have always found what Ive been looking for. The amount of information, insight, and advice that ppl give here is incredible.

Having said that..lol...here is my situation.

Currently running 1.5 with RSRD, TMO and RFB (im not even sure if TMO and RFB can run at the same time but JSGME gave me no issues when i loaded all the mods) If anyone has any comments about that specifically feel free.

Currently my sub is positioned at 180W and 30N off of Midway Island, its June 3rd '42 and I'm waiting for the Battle of Midway to commence (so far in this game I haven't been involved in a large naval battle). I've sat there for the entire duration of the battle (usually give up around June 9th) with very little naval activity. Ive run into a small group of DD's and one Light Cruiser but nothing close to the massive fleets that I expected.

Ive searched the forums regarding this and have found some information, basically ppl cant find the fleets either but they are running a stock version. OR have found the fleets but don't divulge the co-ords.

I'm wondering if anyone could help me out by pointing my sub in the right direction. Or perhaps tell me about their experience with this battle.

PS: I tried looking in the RSRD files for any battle co-ords but was a little eerie with what exactly to look at and of the idea of screwing one of the files up.

Thanks in advance

As far as coordinates I don't have them but in RSRDC the battle is there.

Make sure that you have the correct version of RSRDC for TMO. Lurker did versions for stock, RFB and TMO.

Welcome aboard! Subsim is a must if you play SH4.

EDIT: I didn't catch that you were running TMO and RFB. They are not compatible.

BigZed,

Welcome to Subsim!!

To answer your first question, TMO & RFB are NOT made to work together, it is one or the other, but not both. You can make additional folders for SH4 for separate installs for both. You will also need to use MultiSH4.

To answer your second question about Midway, Yes the battle is in the campaign by Lurker.

Good Luck!

You really shouldn't be expecting massive fleets all in one spot. While the numbers involved may seem impressive in total, the Japanese fleet in particular was broken up into about four groups hundreds of miles distant from each other.

Plus, I'm not sure how accurately the battle would be modeled. There are no Akagi or Kaga class carriers modeled in the game.

Subs not finding the Battle of Midway is pretty realistic. Both sides deployed big submarine screens, but only one sub on either side actually found the battle.

Ironically, the US sub involved didn't destroy anything, but played a big role in winning the battle in a roundabout way. The Japanese sub sank a US carrier, but it hardly made a difference in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks for the quick responses, I guess I'll look around for the larger ships.

I'll try running just RFB and RSRD for now on. Though just to note that i never had any problems when all three (TMO RFB and RSRD) were loaded, did they work? maybe not, but at least no game play issues.

I think one other US sub was involved. The USS Tambor didn't get to make an attack but the Japanese cruiser Mogami spotted her periscope and in maneuvering to avoid a suspected torpedo attack, collided with the Mikuma. Both ships were slowed and came under air attack the next day.

I know the TF you speak of- a Kuma Class CL and 4 DD bopping around with no party to attend. Weird. You missed the party, Skip. Try putting yourself about 200 nm NNW of Midway on or about the 4th of June. Watch your TC and make frequent hydrophone checks at P. depth.

They will show.

You can also catch the bad guys as they leave the Bungo Straits in late May. Will PM you the date if you ask for it, don't want to spoil the surprise for everyone else.

I restarted my career when you guys told me that TMO and RFB weren't compatible (maybe that had something to do with the lack of action...just a thought). So i cant wait for the battle of midway to come along!!

Hopefully I wont be blind any longer!!!

Of teh many instances of 'reality' in the sim, the battle of midway was the only one I nanaged to get involved with. Once, when notified of the Battle of the Coral Sea, I was not too far away, made it within the specifics, and - nothing!! Not even a merchant.
