Default Improved SD radar seems worse?

Hi all

I haven't been playing the game for too long. I'm using TMO.

I'm currently in a Gar in september 1942. I used to get aircraft warnings from a good distance away, certainly well out of the aircrafts visual range and had plenty of time to get deep and avoid being spotted. I have just upgraded to "improved SD radar". Now it seems whenever I get an aircraft warning, I am already well within visual range and have to crash dive and often get depth charged.

Why is this happening since I got the "improved" radar?

Good question, I've noticed the same thing.

Are you using any mods that may effect the radar? Can't think of anything else that could be causing your problems.

I only use TMO. It's weird it seems to have sorted itself out now. I'm back to seeing the aircraft well out of visual range. Maybe just some weird bug that cropped up.

Anyway, all seems well now :-)

Get the reliable Radar O'Reilly set. He can even pick up helicopters.

I doubt he could hear that well through a hull and several feet of water, but you never know.

Why don't they air M*A*S*H anymore?

It must've been one of Benards improvements. At least until your original radar operator looked at it and fixed his stuff up

Were you at action stations in one and not in the other?

I don't know if this is the same problem that you are seeing, but I'll mention what I've run into, since it sounds similar. Its seems sometimes that if I make use of the single sweep radar button, this results in my SD radar no longer functioning. (At least, I think that is the cause and effect.) I was able to get it back working, again, by creating a save and restarting the game from that save.

Perhaps there is something else going on, here, which I'm not really understanding (i.e., what the single sweep radar button's features are). I'm running the stock campaign with v1.4 patch.
