Default SH4 UBM install to 2nd hard drive

I need to purchase the UBM add-on today (download thru the link on this site), but I have a question beforehand. I know the add-on works with my SH4 CD hard-copy, but the regular SH4 is installed on my C: drive. This drive is full now and I want to start using the second hard drive, D: drive. If I install the add-on to the D: drive, will everything still work? Or is it better to cut and paste the SH4 program file to the D: drive first to keep it all together? Likewise, if I want to move it to my external hard drive, can I do so? If it helps, this is on my laptop and plain SH4 on C: only tends to bog the computer down after an hour or two. I know, I'm making it too complicated.

Further, is it required to put the CD in the drive to run SH4? I have to, which is a little inconvenient, but wondering if you can install it w/o using the CD to run the game everytime.

Thanks all-
Steve

First of all welcome to subsim
UBM only gives you the option to install in the directory you installed SH4 in. The game'll still work if you copy it to your 2nd drive. I don't know though if you can install UBM if the game isn't in its original directory so it'd be best to uninstall SH4 and reinstall it to your D: drive before installing UBM.

Before I got UBM the game wouldn't run if I didn't have the DVD in its drive. But with UBM it isn't required anymore.
I've got the European version, it might be different on the US version.

Since 1.4 you don't have to have the DVD in the drive. I know how to do multiple installs on a single drive, not sure about more than that though,
somebody will.

Welcome to SUBSIM by the way!

Hi guys. Thanks for the welcome and help. If I uninstall SH4 from my original, C: drive, and reinstall it in the D: drive, will it retain my current patrols/medals/etc? I think these are in My Documents on the C: drive in the SH4 folder.

I didn't know about the v1.4 and no-disc-needed thing. Thanks! Time to upgrade to a Voodoo laptop - the HP is doing OK, but the mods and add-ons are taking their toll...
