Default Any Ligotti readers?

Hi

I just got a book of Thomas Ligotti, namley the latest collection of short stories, Teatro Grotesco. This is so called weird horror stories in the tradition of good old HP Lovecraft and others. Good stuffindeed, language is very moody and a bit surreal.
I see the collection My work is not yet done is going to be reprinted this spring. (Genre: corporate horror ). Anyone else reading his earlier stories who can share impressions or recommend earlier writing from mr Ligotti?

cheers porphy

To be honest, anything that is styled in the Lovecraftian tradition would probably give me nightmares.
It's just not my cup of tea, but I'm happy to offer a free bump. Good literature is wondeful thing, whatever the genre

I must confess the only reason I've ever heard of Lovecraft at all is because there are so blasted many 'Cthulu' references, pictures, and cartoons on the internet. I picked up an anthology of his works in the bookstore and gave it a read but couldn't get into it. Just found the his writing style too repetive, lurid and overblown. I used to read a lot of Edgar Rice Burroughs, a contemporary of his as a kid. But then those paperbacks usually had some hot alien babe in a skimpy costume on the cover too.

True. Lovecraft is totally devoid of anything connected to the two major themes in many stories, sex and money!

Ligotti is not a Lovcraft copy, but his stories are even more disturbing in many ways...

Sorry to disappoint you . That could be a spin of from his literary carer. "We now present to you the Ligotti pasta, straight out of your nightmare, new and improved"...
