Default Wreck of HMS Victory found after 264 years

"Odyssey said the 31 brass cannons and other evidence on the wreck allowed definitive identification of the HMS Victory, 175-foot sailing ship that was separated from its fleet during a storm and sank in the English Channel on Oct. 4, 1744, with at least 900 men aboard. The ship was the largest and, with 110 brass cannons, the most heavily armed vessel of its day. It was the inspiration for the HMS Victory famously commanded by Adm. Horatio Nelson decades later."

It has been rumored that there are 4 tons of gold that went down with the Victory.

I wonder how much of the ship was intact. One would think that in the shallow waters of the Channel, there wouldn't be much left after all this time. (and what the hell happened to my "hmmm" smiley?)

I've been watching this on "Treasure Quest" on Discovery Channel. They're documenting the find. Fascinating stuff: http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/treasure...ure-quest.html

Thanks mookie

Not only did I get to see some footage, I found a new page for my "favorites" list. Somehow I never thought of looking at Discovery's web page.
I very much enjoyed watching them use the multimillion-dollar Zeus robot to recover crabs for dinner, that was pretty funny:rotfl:
