Default SH4 & Vista 64 bit

Hi

Apologies if this has already been asked, but the search tool did not come up with it.

Will SH4 run OK on Vista 64 bit? I have finally got a laptop that can run demanding games and I hope I can get SH4 to run

Many Thanks

Doesnt look like I can

I can install, patch to 1.4 but when I try to run it states "This application has failed to start because d3dx9_32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

Now I de-selected the option to install dx9 as I obviously have dx10. Should I have installed dx9?

You have to install the DX9 off the disk. Even if you have a DX10 card, parts of the DX9 file will be used to run the game. Re-intall and make sure DX9 and also the codec are installed off the disk. It will run on Vista 64. It runs on mine without issue. I do recommend you make a root folder when the install prompts were to load it. Create C:\Games\Silent Hunter 4 It keeps it out of the OS programs and being as you will probably be loading mods, you will not have any errors if you load the game this way.

Thanks, I googled it and installed a fresh DX and now it works great!

This is my first laptop which tbh has out shined any computer I have ever owned. I am running SH4 with everything maxed...and its flawless.

Anyone considering a laptop around the $1k range then I advise you to look at this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050279&type=product&id=12180125 19873

I highly recommend it for gaming such as this, FX10 and any other demanding game.

Now I only need to try and remember how to play this sim:hmm:

Some people get thrown with DX9 and DX10. Not sure if you should load DX9 when your card is DX10 rated. I was in the same boat I found that bits and pieces of DX will be used to have your application run. So alls well that ends well! Enjoy the game
