Hello Kaleuns!
I've been lurking around the forums for a while now and decided to post about my very interesting 2nd GWX patrol in 1939. I was lurking around BF18 in U-45 and things were going well. After using up most of my torpedoes I decided it'd probably be a good idea to relocate to an area a bit closer to home. I headed north, around Ireland, and then east along the coast of Scotland just west of the Orkneys. And what, to my surprise, should appear? Why, the HMS Hood... ALONE! ![]() I only had 3 eels left in the bow tubes and one in the stern. The Hood was moving fast at about 3km range and a 45 AOB. Since I didn't have time to reposition I just went ahead and fired all 3 bow tubes with a 2 degree spread. To my surprise, 2 of my eels hit! One detonated below her keel near the center and the other detonated right below her screws. She quickly came to a stop and I turned my stern tube to bear. My last eel detonated below Hood's keel towards her stern and she started listing. About 15 minutes later she sank down to the crushing abyss! ![]() |
