Default GWX 2.1 careers in GWX 3.0

I know it's not advised to use a saved GWX 2.1 career with GWX 3.0, but has anyone tried it and it worked OK. I'm on patrol 19 in 1941 and don't really want to start again as I have made some good progess. If it's a case of sticking with GWX 2.1 for now then so be it, but I'd be interested to learn if anyone has suceeded in transferring a 2.1 saved career to 3.0 without problems.

It does say A Clean Install over SH3 1.4,
for safe Results,
I'd say finish your Career in 2.1,
After that say Goodbye to it,
Delete & Uninstall All GWX Files,
Except Your GWX3.0 Files,
If using Vista,Delete the Compatability files too,
Now install SH3 1.4,
And GWX 3.0,
Hope this helps.

I use SH3 Commander's 'Realistic Career Length' option, so a career like that isn't possible for me. On the other hand, I'm so busy testing stuff that I haven't had a real career ever in any version of GWX. I just look at it a lot.

You might try saving the career to a separate folder and reinstalling it after the change, but I wouldn't count on it working. The above post is correct - you need to do a full reinstall and that changes everything. Maybe just wait until your career is over to do the upgrade.

Perhaps if you save the career, reinstall SH3/GWX 3, then add in the career? Or that might just not do anything, I'm not sure. If you really really really like your career I'd say stick with 2.1 until you're finished.

Well, with all the positive talk of GWX 3.0 I couldn't wait any longer, so I backed up my career (whilst in port) and installed GWX 3.0 over a clean install of SH3 1.4b. After running SH3 with GWX once I put my backed up career back in the newly created SH3 folder in my documents and fired up SH3/GWX 3.0 and loaded my old GWX 2.1 career. So far no problems to report, my career appears to be working normally. Lets hope it remains that way.

By the way, my thanks to the GWX team who have done another outstanding job of improving SH3 .

I followed Captain Nemo's procedure to try to continue the career (w/6 missions completed) I had underway in 2.1. The last save point in my 2.1 career was "at sea" early in mission #7. When I attempted to load that save point, the game CTD.

I restarted the game, and this time tried loading the save point when I was in port before mission #7. This save point loaded successfully. After playing for a while, I saved (while at sea) and exited. When I loaded the new save, all continued to be well.

So, it looks like the key to being able to continue a 2.1 career is to resume it while in port, and not while at sea.

My career from GWX 2.1 works perfectly with GWX 3.0.

I did exactly as you said and have no problems with GWX 2.1 career over GWX Gold too. The most important thing is do it "in port". Saves "at sea" don't work and make CTD.

As many members says, you need, at least stay in port to continue your current campaign (saving in sea, you'll have a nice CTD).
