Default So, what did I miss?...

Well, I saw SH4 lying around and decided to put it back on my drive.

What have I missed (just bought the U boat expansion) that I should be aware of?

According to the site, I haven't been here since March 3rd, 2008! lol

Welcome back!

I've been away since 03-05-2007 according the the login screen. Wow.

Used to play Dangerous Waters and before that Sub Command, and before that Janes 688 and before that Silent Hunter (I guess it was version one back then!)

Anyway I've just ordered a copy of the collectors edition (well why not! ) of SH 4 online.

I'm wondering the same question. Which mods should I get? Is the U-boat expansion pack worth getting? Where should I start?

Welcome back guys. The big deal these days is is Real Fleet Boat (RFB) and Trigger Maru Overhauled (TMO). The visual mods are PE4 and EE 5.0. All vastly improve the game. From my understanding, RFB incorporates PE4 and TMO incorporates EE5.0. Check the mod forums for details.

It's all a bit confusing - so many mods. But great that so much is being done. Reminds me of the good old days of SCX!

Thanks for the steer Soundman - I can see I've got some reading to do...

So here is a potential problem I think I see. :hmm:

I like the look of the Real Fleet Boat mod. But this is for version 1.5.

I have just ordered SH4 collectors edition but not (yet) the u-boat addon. Am I right in thinking I can only patch up to version 1.4 and would need to buy the u-boat mod in order to get version 1.5 which I need in order to use RFB?

Or have I got that all wrong?

You will need 1.5. It's good to have even if you don't want to play the German side, it adds a few improvements and fixes. As far as I know, you can still get a 1.4 compatible version of TMO though and then use whatever enviromental mod you may wish to try on top of that. I do highly suggest u-boat patch 1.5 though, as nobody is modding the 1.4 version any longer. It's worth the $10.00.

I bought mine from Direct2Drive today. 532MB download. http://www.direct2drive.com/1/5867/p...sions-Download

So... for $10, I can't really see why you wouldn't get it - plus, as mentioned, RFB is 1.5 only (though the thread says there is a 1.4 exe available for those who don't have it).

I downloaded and tried TMO, but it disables the external camera - gonna look on how to fix that.

I'm getting RFB installed just to see what that does and which I like better.

It is good to be back - however, I still hate making my own solutions... I want my WO back! lol

I actually purchased the game back when it came out from Wal-Mart. Gone of of the copies with the special DVD.

And yes - I remember it prior to AA, glitchy as all get out.

I think I started here with SH3 came out, way back when. lol

The camera works. Remember, TMO uses the same keys as SH3, so for the camera, use F12. Also, make sure it is enabled through options.

See, I did try that - it is enabled in the options, but when I hit F12, it brings up the message box.

When I hit F11, still no go - then I try manually doing it by going to the mouse button on the bottom row - and still no go.

Unless I'm clicking the wrong button. It works in RFB 1.5, but not TMO.

I know that the (<,>) keys are removed from TMO, they can be set back by editing a file. Follow the FAQ. The F12 key, I thought, still worked.
