Default Refitting

still playing stock 1.4, and will upgarade to 1.5 after this campaign, plus maybe an add on.
But that's besides the point. How often do ya'll go in to refit, before you call it a completed patrol?

I don't refit every patrol and I only allow myself one refit unless it is just fuel stops at Midway when based at PH then I stop once going and once coming max. I think it is one of those abused bugs. Which gives me and idea I should add to my sh5 wishlist. Crew fatigue should occur faster and decrease or recover slower as a factor of days since the patrol started. Even a nuclear sub with a crew that can live on a PB&J sandwich a day and water cannot patrol indefinitely. After a few months guys start getting a little batty. I made an around the world deployment on SSN-699 and after seven months no matter what I was ready to go home. You can't put into words the way it feels to experience everyday life again after 7 months of living in the tube. Something as simple as a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich becomes practically a religious experience. Life itself becomes surreal for a short time after returning.

As it is now (in stock 1.4) the only reason to end a patrol is that you choose so. If your sub is not seriously "degraded" (damage or deminished hull integrity) you can refit in a forward base and rejoin the battle again and again. The limiting factor in this case should be the crew. As Rip said you can't be "underway/in patrol" for ever. I haven't observed any worsening on crew performance after long patrols so it is probably not modelled in the game (but who knows eh! maybe I didn't reach the game limit?). Don't know if version 1.5 handles things differently. It would be nice if:
a. Crew performance dropped with increasing patrol duration and/or
b. You were ordered to port after a certain patrol time frame and/or
c. You had a mutiny if cases a. and/or b. were (over)violated!

On my present patrol, I have refitted three times, each time depleting my torpedo stores, racking up the toonage on those 2-3 ship mini-convoys of merchant ships. Well, the only thing I have noticed, if you stay away from getting damaged or shot at, is that the max minimum crew fatigue goes up. After about 2 months out, the lowest I can get them is to 17 fatigue rating. And that's just sitting next to the sub-tender for 2 days. You know, to really stock up, allow them to stretch their feet, all that good stuff. You know like a port call.

What version and modes are you running?

NO REFITS!!!! (unless you're just fueling up at Midway)

Every time you return at the end of a cruise, you are able to pass out medals. But more importantly, the game "rolls the dice" on chances for upgrades and new boats. Not ending cruises promptly denies you the chance. If you're running a 1941 boat in 1945, that would be the culprit.

Also, not all damage is repaired in a refit. Several people have called "bug" when their own failure to end cruises properly is at fault there.
