Default NZ SAS First agmonst equals

Ok we may have no airforce and a pitiful Navy. But we have one thing kiwis should be proud off, we have the NZ SAS!

Documentary on our SAS. (10 parts (2hrs) Youtube vids)

Day of the Kamikaze
The extraordinary story of the world’s first suicide bombers – the Japanese kamikazes. From April 1945, as the Allies fought battle after bloody battle in the Pacific, an increasingly desperate Japanese High Command ordered thousands of pilots to dive and crash into enemy ships. Using archive and interviews, 'The Day of the Kamikaze' explores how, during the battle for Okinawa, thousands of young Japanese men were persuaded to sacrifice their lives. Surviving Kamikaze pilots describe how they were persuaded to sign up to almost certain death, and Allied sailors relive the horror of facing the daily suicide tactic for the first time.

So I guess that is why the SAS base in the UK is based in Hereford, Wales, to give the Kiwis some targets when they come to visit?

When i was in Iraq this year. I was talking to a Australian Solider. Who said that the NZ SAS is the only SF that you can turn up at the recruiting center and join?. (As long as you make it through the training.) Is this true?
Also did you know that a member of the Bravo Two Zero patrol was a former member of the NZ SAS.
I read a book by him a while back called Solider Five if im correct.
At the start he was talking about how he had to pass the British SAS selection to join the Unit.
Even though he was already a member of the NZ SAS.
Was very interesting.
On a side note i believe that in the British Army you have to have done 4 years service at your unit before trying to join the SAS.

There is the 18X program. There are some in the community who are opposed to this, and there are others who may support it but if so I haven't heard it.
