Hi everyone.
Longtime lurker, first time poster. I have installed SC through steam on my XP virtual machine. Everything works perfect EXCEPT the 3D engine: I can only see the propeller of my sub, and propellers and other stuff from other ships, never the hull. Is this a known directX issue or should i look at the virtual machine? Kind of ghostly to see a lonely propeller twisting along in the dark ocean. Thanks! |

Thanks for your reply. What I'm doing is trying to play SC in a virtual machine: essentially a guest installation of windows working as a separate application within my Macintosh OSX. As such, every video acceleration has to be emulated.
I'll ask the question in a different way: What are the technical requirements for SC to render all 3D objects? Anisotropic Filtering, Antialiasing, AGP acceleration? The VMWare graphics card emulation can't do AGP acceleration, for instance. Thanks! |

Vmware doesn't have directx acceleration, only opengl acceleration (and this is a beta feature of the latest version) so its already a miracle your having the game up and running. Rendering problems are to be expected and you can't fix them unless the vm supports completely dx 7 (I think that was the version used in SC).
Just run the game with 3d graphics disabled, its better than nothing. |
