Good start.
U-69 was lost with all hands this weekend. The captain was too drunk and Bernard assumed command.:rotfl:
So I've started a new career. This time U-99, a VIIB. First patrol out, we are in October 1939. Casually cruising near Scapa Flow expecting to pepper unarmed merchants with my deck gun and get experience for the crew. The men are all green and I don't even have a sonar man. ''Ship Spotted''.... Lookie what we have here. ![]() Reloading a torpedo and only had three tubes... Of all moments to forget reloading, it had to be then! ![]() Anyways. I manually set up the shots. Two TII's, impact detonator at 5m and one TI set on fast and 6m. Shot all three fish with the same solution but the first two never hit. However... ![]() :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: ![]() A nice Kaboom. I subsequently chased it and put another eel, that time in her bow. ![]() And she wouldn't sink, but has slipped out of formation and apparently can't keep up. ![]() Game still running, that's where I'm at. Hopefully we can catch up with her at flank speed on the surface tonight. ![]()

I think the TII's are all standard at 5000m in GWX... 1800 is bloody short.
Using GWX 2.1, OLCE 2 and some other goodies. Screenshots to follow tomorrow, but I sank the Hood tonight. ![]()

Pictures.
![]() ![]() I chased submerged, reloaded and shot one more. Good hit but she still wouldn't sink and things were starting to get hot (3-4 DD's). I went to time x32 when evading and suddenly got the ''She's going down.'' message... so I paused the game a little late and that's the only shot I got of her sinking. ![]() Later... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After that I saw 2 auxiliary cruisers escorted by a V&W. Shot my torpedoes and all missed or dudded. I closed in on the surface at flank speed (they were doing 14 knots). They never saw me coming. Manned the deck gun and opened fire at 3000m, and I didn't even fire the thing myself this time. Set the crew to aim for the waterline and crossed fingers while closing under their combined gunfire at flank speed. I dived and evaded until they returned to their course when I sank the first cruiser, and repeated the procedure. The DD gave me a broadside so I switched fire over to him and sank it in 5-6 shells. Then I kept closing on the cruiser until it too sank. Fired 5 torpedoes for no hits but in the end I got them all with the deck gun. Patrol results Ship sunk! S.S. Hallfried (Small Merchant), 2578 tons Ship sunk! M/V M&J Tracey (Large Tugboat), 422 tons Ship sunk! HMS Hood (HMS Hood), 48360 tons Ship sunk! HMS Rawalpindi (Auxiliary Cruiser), 13850 tons Ship sunk! HMS Watchman (V&W classes), 1188 tons Ship sunk! HMS Carthage (Auxiliary Cruiser), 13850 tons Crew losses: 0 Ships sunk: 6 Aircraft destroyed: 0 Patrol tonnage: 80248 tons Not bad for a first patrol. ![]()

Here's a question to GWX devs:
Is this sort of thing going to be balanced better in 3.0? I don't really imagine a VIIB would have taken on two auxiliary cruisers and a destroyer on the surface like this. This was at full realism except for weapon officer assistance and map contact update, but that wouldn't matter since none of my torps hit them. I took a few hits but really nothing serious. Didn't have the hull integrity in-game (disabled) but found out afterwards it was at 76%.... So still in good shape after a gun fight with three warships. ![]()
