Default [REQ] Bad Files Wanted!

Say you have a Good Game going,
THEN WHAM!! it's messed up!

I want copies of those files!

Now what that will take is this.
After a GOOD Save (one you can replay)
Copy the SH3 folder (or whatever you have re-named it with Multi SH3)
Do this EVERYTIME!!
Once you hit the dreaded CTD?
Save the same with a new name and pack them up for me.
Upload them with the best notes you can give me.

What, when, where, why, how, mods enabled, blah, blah, blah.
Did the wife interrupt you,
did the dog bark or Snow fall?
The more detailed, the better.

I'd prefer a squeeky clean install of GWX 2.1
In other words?
No mods what so ever.

The mods list you send me will determine if I look at the files.
If you run 20 Brazillion mods?
Don't bother.

The basics need fixed first and foremost!
That will allow me to see clean files I understand
the innermost workings of.

Good questions and comments are welcome.
If you want to cry about my disregarding mods?

Talk to the hand!!
Cause the Head ain't listening!

Default CTD

Privateer,
In three years of playing SHIII with and without numerous mods, I have never had CTD except when testing for GWX or when self modifying that infamous menu1024_768 file.

I've had the ongoing issue with the CTD. I had a perfectly sound GWX2/1 installation with none of the options included. I added some, added the bugfix and rubini's wake mod. Then I started to encounter the CTD. I could give you a list of all the mods, even send you the mod files themselves. The actual game files I have since uninstalled and cleaned out, so no luck there.

I'll keep you informed of how things go with my new install today.

Got to love the quality control at subsim.

Excuse me, please, but Privateer want (also) to now, precisely, the most common mistakes people do.

I mean common people, not programmers. I suppose, a programmer don’t need so mush his help. Perhaps he would like a collaboration with others programmers, like you did very well Anvart.

Excuse me, again, Privateer, if I not understand well.

IMHO a mistake comes from several sides: not only from contradictory folders ingame, but also from bad/old/corrupted codecs, bad/old/corrupted versions of DirectX, hard fragmentation of the disk, etc.

To give an example, I have always CTD, with the Intro film of NYGM. Even Windows Explorer shut down. It is only a .wmv file. I have no problem with others .wmv. I downloaded 2 times this supermod, always the same. So, I deleted that, and no CTD.

Another example: 15 patrols, no problem. The 16th patrol starts with CTD. Several trails, no solution. All data ok inside My Documents, Careers folder etc. Correct number of flotilla, position of the port, … Desperate, I start, for first time, from inside SH3 Commander 3.1, all options unchecked: miracle . . . the Uboot go in the see. . (I have Commander only for crew promotions).

Thank you Privateer. Indeed, your initiative is very gentle.

I'll move my issue to this thread, as I hate to clog up the GWX thread with my CTD problem.

After uninstalling everything, defraging the HD, cleaning the registry, defraging the registry, I reinstall and have the same CTD.

I tried to think of what I was doing differently since the last time I had the game running, and the only thing that came to mind was that I had fraps running, so I turned it on and no CTD.

To All,

I am interested in the Save Game problems people suffer from.

The only CTD's I have ever had were from my own mistakes as Anvart stated.
Or testing something for someone I'm assisting troubleshoot thier Mod.

I have saved in every place that you shouldn't and have never been
able to produce the same problem.

To really compare Good Save Game files to bad Save Game files,
I'm hopeing someone can hook me up with those files.

Unless I get lucky in an unlucky sort of way!
