U-73 Patrol Report

Set out on Patrol 4 on November 3, 1939

No ships spotted during transit of the North Sea.

Coastal freighter spotted November 7, fired one torpedo, good hit, ship sank 30 minutes later with no further action.

SS Chrysler's Field spotted and torpedoed on November 8th, ship slowed. Stern torpedo fired about an hour later, broke the ships back. Ship thought to have sunk in Grid AM36, although the two halves of the ship were seen floating for the total time the ship was in view.

M/V Kattegat spotted in Grid AM53, fired 4 torpedoes, two missed, two hit, ship sank quickly.

Unidentified American Ship spotted Grid AM 53 on November 9th. Contact reported, no further action taken

Small Coal barge torpedoed and sunk on November 10, in Grid AM81. Ship did an immediate nose dive, bobed up a few times, and sank about 2 minutes after the attack.

Arrived in BF15 for 24 hour patrol, no ships spotted.

On Return trip, Medium sized freighter sighted and sunk with two torpedoes.

On November 14, small English tug spotted. While moving to attack, ship sank due to the storm at hand.

No other ships spotted, returned to Willgelmshaven on November 22, 1939 after 20 days at sea.
