Default Any way to increase SH3 video resolution?

Hey all - been away for a long time. I was flipping through the channels last night and Das Boot was on HDNet Movies channel so I had to watch it again. Of course that sparked me to dig for the SH3 disc and get back in.

My current PC is miles beyond what I was using three years ago, including my monitor that is now a 21" widescreen. I couldn't find any option to increase the game's resolution, and everything looks really tiny on this monitor.

Is there any way, through mods or otherwise, to force a higher resolution? I really do love the game but I'd like to get some better visual quality out of it.

There was a "mod" done a while back that does allow you to play SH3 in just about any resolution.

IIRC, it's a hack of the Direct 3D 9 files used in SH3. I'm not sure how well it works for Vista or DirectX 10 but it does work with all service pack versions of Windows XP.

Link is here... SH3 Resolution Fix

One caveat to be aware of... You cannot use the SH3 Mission Editor with the Res Fix as it causes the ME to crash. You have to restore the original files replaced by this mod before starting the editor and then add the Res Fix back in after you're done working with the ME.

Hope this does the trick for you, good sir, and welcome back to the briny deeps of the North Atlantic!

Sink 'em all!

Thanks a ton, it worked perfectly. Putting it in widescreen resolutions ends up stretching the window (which I expected) but it really isn't very noticable outside of the menus. Game looks MUCH better, and my PC can still run it without problems at 1680 x 1050.

Now I need to check out some of the new mods everyone is talking about

1680x1050??

What, are you playing this game on a billboard?

You might have a hard time choosing mods. I know I do!

There's been some fantastic mods done around here, lately, things that weren't even considered possible.

You're going to love it.
