The British nuclear submarine HMS Trafalgar has offically been reported missing while on routine exercises in the atlantic this morning. Fears are brought about by her training escorts HMS Marlborough and USS Thatch as they have not heard from the submarine in two days. The last communication with the vessel two days ago indicated they may have had a problem with thier air supply systems, several hours later when the Trafalgar known affectionatly as Traffie failed to report in on the days exercise. It comes as a shock and surprise not only to the Royal navy who untill now have not lost a nuclear submarine, but also to the crews families, an all out air and sea search and rescue mission has been implemented by the U.S navy and the British Royal air force. Fears are growing for the safety of the crew onboard as the cold waters of the Atlantic would mean any person who has managed to escape could have just hours in thier survival suits. The submarine was practicing routine training exercises with both the Thatch and Marlborough which were due to last another three days, the families of the 107 crew have been notified and a sister submarine HMS Triumph is also on the search for the missing submarine. The first sea lord was quoted saying this morning in a press confrence "we hope and pray the crew and submarine is safe and well it would be a devastating loss to the Navy should she be lost" HMS Trafalgar was built in barrow and furness in 1983 and has served with the Royal navy since her commissioning in 1984, based in devenport she is the flagship of the 2nd submarine division and carries the latest spearfish torpedos and tomahawk cruise missiles. The location of her dissapearance is unknown the Royal navy is refusing to state her exact where abouts but we believe that she is near the American coast for training with U.S ships and aircraft.
