Default Help with quick mission (and in general, screen penetration)

Wow, I've never had this much trouble in SH3.

Well, for starters, in the "Battle of the Phillippines" mission, I'm tasked with destroying the Yamato and if I had a few more torpedoes to spare, bring down anything else if I can. However, my Sub is smack-dab in the path of the fast approaching destroyers, meaning that if I go even faster than 4 knots per hour in order to try and line myself up a good firing position, I can look foward to having some structurally superfluous holes being installed into the hull of my boat, courtesy of depth-charges. Even if I rig for silent running, I'm going so slow that the destroyers are within range to ping me, and, well, the above happens as well.

And another thing, I remembered back in SH3 when I could plop my boat right in the middle of a merchant convoy (around 750 meters from the center line of ships of the convoy), launch all of my torpedoes, and crash dive before the escorts even knew what 'em. With the destroyer fleets at the disposal of the Imperial Fleet, I'm starting to wonder how the subs of the US navy had a much higher survival rate than the German wolf packs.

No expert I, but can you reset with a better position? I have not played that one, but it might be worth a try just to let them pass (PD for a look at the layout of the TF, dive deep/face the track to avoid Destroyers) and try to get ahead of them for a better postion.

"Fast approaching DDs" should not detect you on their passive sonar. They must slow down to "listen".
