Compatibility

I use a lot of mods, and I was wondering about the compatibility of some of them in relation to the others, as I was getting frequent CTDs just days ago. (I just reinstalled, but haven't tested anything.)

My current install is Silent Hunter 4: U-boat missions 1.5

First off, these are the mods I have in constant effect, or want to.

Environmental 4.9
Smaller seabed rocks
Silent fire 1.5.1 (unrealism)

these are the ones that go on on & off as I desire:

Bismark 1.2
IJN Fuso Beta 1.1
IJN Kongo
IJN Maya II 1.1
Littorio 1.0
Pocket Battleship Beta 1.1
Fubuki Beta
Yamato
USS Iowa
Natural Sinking Mechanics

Would any combos of those (excluding using multiple ship mods at the same time) cause CTDs?

I got CTDs when starting an leaving port in an American Career and playing almost any American quick mission (unless I was using the Iowa, but only on a few). I have no German quick missions, but I could play a German career fine with the Bismark.

EDIT: I've just remembered that NSM doesn't work w/ 1.5... I'll try everything w/out that.

The generic "cure" for mod related CTDs is to use JSGME to add mods one at at time and remove them if they are incompatible.

To totally understand all of the interactions between everyone of the SHIV mods would be fodder for a doctorial thesis I would think.

No kidding, not only is it important which mods you install over other mods, its also important in what order they were installed in.

With all the mods you are running I am not at all supprised your running into problems. Although I dont know enough to say "theres your conflict right there".

As suggested above install them one at a time and do some 'stability' testing first. Then if you do hit an offender you can simply remove it (with jsgme) and move on.

I built the Maya, Fuso, Kongo, and Iowa from your list (also the Brooklyn if you ever download it) none of them are compatable with Career mode. I built them to use in single missions, not thinking anyone would use them in a career so there were never tested before release. I have not had time to figure out why they don't work in Career due to working on a Japanese Campaign. I hope to be able to figure it out when I get time. I have a few ideas, but when I made a post asking for help no one had an answer.
There are some single missions on my site that you can download, the Maya, Fuso, and Kongo are built on US subs but are Japanese and will be attacked by Allied ships. One mission "Task Force Maya and Refit" has a refit station at Wake and you can rearm and go anywhere you want and it will work with all the Japanese ships. It will also work with the US ships if you want to get attacked quickly.:rotfl:.

It isn't on my site and I did a reinstall so I don't have it, but if you open an 'in game' mission in mission editor and change a few things you can use those. I did the Battle off Samar and took out the US sub put in the Kongo and set the depth to 0. And then you can play it with any of the Japanese ships. Lots of action there.
The Iowa should work in any single mission where the sub is not submerged, unfortunately there are not many. But load into Mission Editor, set the sub depth to 0 and resave. If it is a mission where it is a US sub attacking a Japanese Task Force like Midway, just move the sub to a save location before saving.

There are also a couple of mission for PBS and Fubuki (not sure if they were 1.4 or 1.5) The "Convoy Guardian" was written for the Fubuki, it is a German mission, but again open in mission editor and replace the fubuki with one of the Japanese ships, resave but select American Mission instead of German mission and it will be useable with the Japanese ships.

If you make any of these changes make sure to take the 'ship' from the sub tab not from the 'sea' tab. The game thinks these are subs. Also to have the 'ship' show in the mission editor it must be enabled with JSGME before you open the mission editor. Otherwise it will not show in the list. Then before you start the game, install the ship you want to use and select it from the list for the single mission.

actually NSM does work with 1.5 even though it wasnt designed to.

when used with 1.5 it has a few minor issues that most people never notice but no CTD problems as far as i know of.
