Default sh4 map

does sh4 use the same base map as sh3? Is it terribly distorted at northern and southern latitudes like sh3's is? I was just looking at some screenshots of the sh4 map and noticed that the long and lat lines are in perfect boxes, unlike the grids in sh3, which are stretched as one goes farther north or south.

thanks

The problem is not the visual distortion near the poles. This is normal for "mercator projection" type maps as the one used in the game. The real problem is that the ingame distance calculation is not based on a spherical earth (spheroid actually) but on a "flat earth". The distance between two meridiens, in the game is constant while in reality it is latitude depended. For example the distance between two meridiens differing one degree longitude is 111 km in the equator and 0 at the poles. In the game meridiens are parallel lines of constant distance.
So what's the problem?
Wrong distances. Longer travel times. Fuel issues.
I think there is a mod that compensates the map/distance problem by "adding" fuel.

@Steamwake. You've really accepted Ubisoft's world view, haven't you!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
