I\'m having trouble with the radar, sir.
What\'s wrong with it?
I\'ve lost the bleeps, I\'ve lost the sweeps, and I\'ve lost the creeps.

They'll pick up on depth sounding as well (also active sonar).

Think historically some merchants were fitted with hydrophones late in the war, which would allow them to pick up on it as well. Don't think it's modeled in stock, but some mods might. :hmm:

I assumed they could, then heard they could not (was not modeled in the game). The other night I pinged the heck out of a lead destroyer in a convoy from a mile or so off, and he didn't seem to change his search pattern. (late 1943). I don't know a definitive answer though.

From a mile out? Did you even get a return?

Were they cruising along at 20 some knots?

Ping one for range inside of 1,500 yards sometime. That will get their attention. :rotfl:

I'm pinging a warship right now, so far without consequence. It's not an escort, but it does have an escort 1500 yards ahead and he hasn't picked it up so far either. I am doing widely separated single pings to modulate my speed. Once I close to 1500 yards and match speed I'll give the situation 30 minutes to take 'em off their presumed guard and see what mayhem I can create with my sugar boat and my four remaining Mark 10s.

3 escorts and a strange warship from RSRD. This could be VERY interesting :hmm:.... or suicidal.

Wait a minute... you have active sonar on a sugar boat?
