Default [WIP/Help] Japanese Campaign

I tried asking in the ATO thread but didn't get any response, so maybe someone here may be able to help.
We are working on a Japanese Campaign but the one problem we will be using the Pacific Ocean but the boats (by Keltos) are built with German subs so we need to use the German "Office" to assign missions but the map is wrong.
I have found the map, but of course when it assigns missions they will be in the wrong loction because the map coordinates are different. Does anyone know where that information is loaded?
I found this in Menu_1024_768.ini for the Pacific map:

[G03 I10]
Name=BigPicture
Type=1031;Stat bmp array
ItemID=0x3000004
ParentID=0x3000000
Pos=0,-128,1024,512
Zone= 0 640 1024 512 6 1 0x3000000 0.5 -0.5 0x3000004 -0.5 0.5 0 0
Materials=1
Display=2;Linear
Mat 0=data/menu/skins/american/gui/careerstart/bigmap.dds
MatFlags=0x9
TexFmt=0x0
Drag=false
BmpState=1
NeedFocus=true
SelOne=false
IdGroup=0

I'm hoping from a search of the forum,found a tutorial by Zamboni, that the 'zone' will be map coords and not just the map placement on the screen. But I can't find the same info for the German "Bigmap.dds".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes I'd like to play Japanese, too.

The boats were large, we all know that. But what the heck.

About the problem I don't know anything either, but SeaOtter might know something.

Thanks for the response anyway!
Actually the subs that Kelto's has made so far are not like the Sen Toku which was huge. And it plays very well. I haven't had a chance to try the othe two yet. We hope it won't be long until at least a Beta version is available. I was doing the Campaign on the US/Japanese side until all the subs came out built with German subs, so we had to switch. And the German stuff, for some reason, seems to be a bit harder to find. I changed the medals then found out they didn't work, so doing some searching I found the medals in six different places, so it was trial and error to get the right set. And other minor problems, some solved, some fixed, some just hidden.

I have questions. When it some to sub interiors I guess you must make use with the available ones, i.e. german / american? But have you managed to create japanese looking crewmen? That would be very important for the believeability imo. Like these fellas.

I generally like Japanese designs. Like their airplanes, japanese boats had aerodynamic, somewhat feminine shapes that I find very appealing. It is well known the japanese subs were hopelessly handicapped but I generally prefer to play the Japs in PTO games (no pun against us).

It was being worked on, I am not personally doing it so I am not aware at this time the status of the work.

@Peabody : how's the campaign going ?

To have a realistic and immersive campaign you also need believable Japanese voices.

We are just going to set "rig for silent running" so there's no talking.

One thing to think about for missions is the way so many IJN subs ended their careers.

IJN subs were frequently ordered to meet another sub, or to be at a patrol area at a specific lat/long, usually at noon (I think on the noon part).

The US read their code, and met many a sub with another sub to the IJN sub's misfortune.

Air assets could also be triggered in the right places (long range patrol planes). A hunter-killer group might also be possible.

AI subs would be the best, though. Whip up some of those!

PS-looking forward to cranking SH4 back up when my man-cave is finally back in order after a summer of remodeling.

In 1942 I think, an IJN sub was tasked with attacking an australian harbor, the us intercepted and decoded the transmition, and three us subs were tasked with sinking it. They didn't.

Also, we'll need the AI russian subs because in 1941, the I 25 sank one from a group of two going from vladivostok to murmansk mistaking it for a US sub.. The other russian managed to get to his destination.

have 2 ask Dagon how far he's come with the transfering of his russian subs from SHIII to SHIV.

I agree 100% and I would not want to play this with english voices at all. There are quite a few games that had convincing Japanese, in particular, Shogun Total War comes to mind. Wouldnt it be possible and cheat by using the language files from these games, no matter what they actually say? Fluent speakers of japanese would cringe, but in the end, who cares if the guy says "all repairs have been done captain" or " your wife has given birth to a healthy daughter" or "we had a bad harvest this year". It's the sound of japanese that matters, usually commanding or solemn, not some cheesy stuff like the original voiceovers.

Check:

etc ..

By the way the samples that were digitized for SHIV are much better, too bad they used a lot from SHIII, I never liked the voices (german and english were as bad imo).
