Default sonar woes

Is there a trick or a mod to get the sonar operator to do his job? I had a situation with an escort ahead of a transport at about 20 deg bearing within 3500 yds. I wanted the sonar to track the nearest object which would have been the escort, to determine when it had crossed my bow and to determine if I had been detected. The sonar operator was only focused on another escort at a bearing of about 120 deg which was about 7,000 yds away and I could not get a bearing on any of the closer ships. I tried all the buttons on the menu and nothing helped. I would also like to be able to specify if I want merchants or warships tracked. Is there a fix for this problem? Thanks!

There is none that I know of. That is one of the biggest bothers in the whole game. You should be able to order the sonar operator to track the ship you want.

Yep.

Only way is to do it yourself.

How do you manually track a contact of your choice in SH4? I don't see a bearing selector on the hydrophone console.

What do you mean no "bearing selector"? You can "mouse_click" on the sonar "dial" at the bearing you want to "listen" or you use the lever beneath the sonar dials to "sweep". What version are you playing?

As Diopos said you can click on the bearing circle in the 3D sonar room to move the bearing of the sonar or use the HOME and END keys.

The Home and End keys work, but when I click on the handle my cursor disappears and my view changes to mouse control.

Extremely sorry! The lever is cosmetic! Mouse_click the sonar dial! If you have a "wheel" on your mouse you can "sweep" with that too.
