Default [WIP?] Improved Mediterranean Campaign - GWX 2.1

I've been playing GWX 2.1 in the med for the past six months and it seemed a bit too quiet, in spite of the vast historical naval activity that occurred in the med during WWII. Many of the major events that occurred in the Med are scripted in GWX, but there was a lot of activity that occurred regularly that hasn't made its way into GWX (task force movements, carrier-based air campaigns, etc.). I started looking up some references on naval history and playing with the scripting editor, and now I find myself starting to create a full-blown campaign overhaul for the Med (based on the GWX 2.1 campaign files).

Right now I am doing this for my own benefit, but if the GWX team supports the idea and there's interest out there in the community, I'll do it with intention of releasing it for others.

Is the interest out there?

Thanks, guys. I am already working on it. I just ordered a few books as references. The one in particular that caught my eye is 'The Royal Navy in the Mediterranean' by David Brown. (A few chapters are online on Google books) His detail regarding the movements and activities of the British Med fleet can be the basis for a great mod.

For maximum realism, there's a few ships I could use that don't exist in the game right now...mainly an older Queen Elizabeth class (HMS Malaya and HMS Valiant), HMS Ark Royal, and HMS Eagle. For now I can use the Illustrius class and maybe Warspite as representative of the 15-inch QE BBs, but it would be great if there were a ship modder willing to create them.

I'll also see what I can find on shipping in the Med during that period and see if we can realistically liven up that aspect of the Med campaign as well.

Yes there is interest but let me make a suggestion: Now that you are at it, delete the shipping traffic in the rest of the world so the loading times improve With JSGME switching campaigns is so easy now that it would be a pity not to take advantage of it.

Great idea. I'm really looking forward to this. Currently playing a Med camapign (Mar '42) & it doesn't seem as "busy" as the Atlantic.

Thanks everyone...especially to Bigboywolly for his advice and permissions. I wouldn't want to create anything for release without first getting the original GWX team's support.

Hitman...Good idea. I was thinking the same. The way Bigboywolly brokedown the Black Sea and Indian Oceans campaigns into JSGME mods would work well here too.

I've started some scripting, but once all of my new references arrive, I'll be able to fully roll up my sleeves and get to down to work.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Exactly! The main part of traffic can be deleted in a 1 minute job by opening the in-game editor and selecting them all via mouse dragging and simply hitting the "Delete" key. Then you must go one by one for the rest and separate which ones go into the Med and which ones don't, but given the work you are planning to do, this will not be too bothering.

Good luck and keep us informed

Awesome idea - I love hunting in the Med and it sounds like your mod will be a great enhancement.
