Default Crew attributes evolution for v.1.5

Hi,

I have been doing some research about crew evolution lately and I have compiled some remarks and figures which I think could be interesting (I only hope this han't been done before) :

1. Your crewmen only raise their attributes during their Petty Officer career. Nothing is gained during the Seaman carreer and during CPO and officer carrer they have a chance to get special abilities as they gain rank (I think), but no attributes raises anymore.

2. Using the table below, you can make a better selection of starting Seamen, by comparing the prospective values of their attributes with those of your starting officers and petty officers. This is especially useful since V.1.5 where possible officer and PO numbers have been greatly reduced.

3. I've got these figures from playing the 1.5 version (U-Boat Missions), don't know if they're right for precedent versions.

4. You're warmly welcome to add your own observations about crew evolution (maybe statistics about special abilities gain ...)

ATTRIBUTES RAISE DURING PO CARREER
--------------------------------------

Specialization-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------

Command PO3 : +20W +20M +10E | PO2 : +20W +20M +10E | PO1 : +10W +10M +10E | total :+50W +50M +30E

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Engines PO3 : +20M +20E | PO2 : +20M +20E | PO1 : +10M +10E | total :+50M +50E

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guns PO3 : +10W +20G +10M | PO2 : +10W +20G +10M* | PO1 : +10W +10G +10M* | total :+30W +50G +30M*

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sensors PO3 : +20M +20E | PO2 : +20M +20E | PO1 : +10M +10E | total : +50M +50E

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Torpedos PO3 : +20G +20M | PO2 : +20G +20M | PO1 : +10G +10M | total : +50G +50M

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watch PO3 : +20W +10M | PO2 : +20W +10M | PO1 : +10W | total : +50W +20M

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* : Not tested, it's just a logical hypothese.

E : Electrical
G : Guns
M : Mechanical
W : Watch

By looking at these figures, one can wonder if watch specialization is useful at all, given that command specialization give greater bonuses for the same attributes.
Maybe there's something I'm missing there.

Thats quite a bit of research youve done there. Nice job.

Im waiting to hear the 'hypothisis' of the others on the topic.

Frankly I never really gave it much thought. I just handed out a few 'watch' advancements and threw them up on the bridge. :hmm:

Default I've surmised the same thing regarding v1.4...

..on the "Command" vs "Watch" specialization. Now, I *think* 1.4 is different, and all I checked was the promotion to PO/declaration of a specialization, but I noted all specializations resulted in 40 points more ratings, except "Command" and "Watch". Command was 50 points total (highest of all specializations) and Watch was 30 points total (lowest specialization total).

For v 1.4 the increase in watch rating for command and watch were equal (+20), but command gave +10 on electrical (versus none for watch) and +20 for mechanical (versus +10 for watch). So, any sailor I'd consider promoting for watch I simply started promoting as command and use him as I would a watch specialist. I haven't seen in 1.4 where watch specialization does anything for you that command does not.

So this is an interesting confirmation as far as I'm concerned.

I also see in 1.5 you show continued ratings growth as promotion to PO1 continues--I've seen some growth in 1.4 but seems irregular and infrequesnt, although I admit I haven't studied in detail as it appears you have. Nice work.

Excellent observation

What I have found was you cannot exceed the PO numbers nor Officers for that matter so will any of the 'wet behind the ears' crew ever get promoted to PO level :hmm:

Now, can we retire crew members and bring on new blood so that promotion in the ranks is possible?

Thats kind of what I was eluding to.

What you dont just load a save game ! :p

I personally dont, if a boat goes down with all hands thats the end of that carrier. But to each their own. Personally it lends a little more uhhhh... urgencey to the game and I consider my actions more carefully.

So far Ive only had 3 skippers 'retire' the rest are either mia or kia.
