Default Radar is always on "focus" when I go to that station

I always set it for sweep (both SD and RA), leave, come back, and it's on "focus" again. I'm going to slap that crewman upside the head if he keeps doing that.

Also, everytime I re-load a saved game, there's water leaking everywhere, but it goes away in a few minutes.

Is that one of those "undocumented features" I hear tell about?

From what I recall, when go to the radar station it switches to focus and I have to change it to what I want. If you left the radar sweeping on your last visit, it should still be sweeping until you return where it goes to focus again. Just one of those things the devs thought would work best. Not sure.

Leaking water, etc. When you reload a save, the game puts you back in your same state when you saved. Sometimes I hear torps firing when I load a saved game. Sometimes water spraying if I was damaged before the save. Yes, it goes away in a few seconds.

Understood. I'll assume it's sweeping until I go take a peek at it myself then.

When this first started, I'd send out damage control teams, but then as a test, just left everything alone, and after a few seconds, like you said, everything seems to button-up just nicely by itself. Nothing was leaking during the save, but if it's just a bug that I can ignore, then no problem.

BTW, do they ALWAYS go to "all stop" when you re-load a save?
Never understood why that was necessary.

Yes, they go to all stop when loading up the save. Not sure of the logic behind that function. Then again, I'm not sure of most of the logic that went into SH4

In the commad bar if you click your radar to on and sweep it will stay that way. When you go look at it it will be in focus and probably with the range set to low. As soon as you go to a different compartment or the map it will be in sweep and long range. It's the setting in the command bar at the bottom of your screens that counts.

Ah, ok, thanks for that info. Appreciate it.

Default If you want to check...

...when you're on the bridge, look up at your radar antenna, it'll be rotating if it's in sweep mode.
I do this when surfacing and I go to the bridge. I don't feel like going to the radar station to "switch on" so I'll just look up and press 'R' key and watch the antenna kick into life. I see that and I know the radar is on and sweeping.
I believe the only time it goes into 'focus' mode is when you actually go to the radar screen itself. Personally I find that very irritating and would prefer it remain sweeping instead of waiting for me to restart it. I have no idea of the dev logic behind making it stop just because I show up at the radar screen.

Having said that, I don't suppose there's a mod/config setting that "forces" it to continue sweeping despite my showing up at the radar screen????:hmm:

Also, if you have SH4 UBM, i.e. patch 1.5, the radar turns on automatically when you surface. Prior to that you had to turn it on everytime you surfaced. Personally, I very much like having it turn on for me, but there is difference of opinion about that in this forum.

Default Not using 1.5

I have to remember to turn the damn thing on every time I surface, LOL. The perils of remaining with 1.4!!!

Default A Useful Tidbit...But Moot for me now

Explains how I blundered upon a tug in rain at 500 yards with no clue he was there until he appeared out of the rain sheets (fortunately he wasn't a destroyer...), or how I failed to pick up heavies in a task force (same rain) when I could submerge and hear them (still managed to sink a Maya, but could have done more).

But, for me it is now moot...I bought v1.5 last Friday but was waiting to install until my career ended. It ended last night with the loss of my sub, so I'll be doing a clean reinstall with v1.5...
